The tiny UK airport where you can fly to Greece and Spain without the queues

Queueing is up there with our favourite national pastimes here in the UK.

Indeed, 57 per cent of us believe we’re more patient than other nations, according to one survey by Practice Plus Group.

But the one time where queueing is more stressful that it’s worth is at the airport – especially if you’re stuck waiting for hours when you’ve got a flight to catch.

Big UK airports such as Manchester Airport and the big London hubs can see holidaymakers stuck in long queues while awaiting their departure.

But there’s one tiny UK airport that could be a better alternative – and it offers flights to holiday hotspots without the queues.

Bournemouth Airport has flights to popular European destinations such as Spain, Greece, and Portugal and is known for being a quieter terminal.

It saw fewer than 700,000 passengers pass through its terminals in 2022.

This makes it a much quieter option compared to, for instance, London’s bustling hubs.

You can even catch flights to North Africa, North America, and the Caribbean from Bournemouth.

Bournemouth Airport is a two-hour drive from London, accessible via the M3.

Alternatively, you can take a train from London’s Waterloo, which will get you to Bournemouth Station in just under two hours from the capital.

Bournemouth Airport serves on average more than 950,000 passengers a year with flights to 34 destinations across Europe and North Africa.

Many of these journeys are operated by airlines such as TUI and Ryanair.

Popular destinations you can reach from Bournemouth Airport include Fuerteventura, Ibiza and Malaga.

You can also travel from the hub to Geneva, Edinburgh and Corfu.

The hub has hit headlines recently with the announcement of strikes.

Bournemouth Airport is set to be hit by four days of strikes this autumn.

Around 80 workers, who are members of Unite the Union, will go on strike later this month and in October after a new pay offer was rejected.

Walkouts will take place on September 30, October 1, October 16 and October 17.

Bournemouth Airport, which put the number of strikers at around 70, said roughly 15 per cent of its 450 workforce would be striking.
