As the festive season fast approaches, many Brits are looking to book some winter sun holidays.
Now, research has revealed more of us than ever are heading overseas for Christmas this year.
More Brits are choosing sunshine over spending time at home, with new data from online travel agency Thomas Cook showing a 20 per cent year-on-year rise in overseas holidays departing during Christmas week.
The top destinations popular among UK travellers have also been revealed.
Handed the title of most popular destination in this study is the Canary Islands.
In second place is Egypt, which has seen the biggest jump in demand (136 per cent year-on-year).
Spain and the USA have seen plenty of Brits booking trips there, too.
Popular destinations also include Malta and Morocco, where bookings are up 25 per cent and 20 per cent respectively.

City breaks are also popular at this time of year, the research has shown.
Also in the top 10 are the Republic of Ireland, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Portugal.
Nicholas Smith, holidays digital director at Thomas Cook, said: ‘Christmas is such a magical time for so many, and what better way to experience the magic than on holiday?
‘We’re intrigued to find that more and more Brits are swapping presents under the tree for memories abroad, and the Canaries remain the firm favourite for some festive winter sun.’
Egypt is also becoming increasingly popular, with Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt’s premier beach and diving resort, a highlight for tourists from the UK.
The top destination, the Canary Islands, is known for being a popular travel destination among Brits.
In 2024, nearly 6.3 million British tourists travelled to the Canary Islands.
Earlier this year, a Canary Islands expert revealed the most underrated island, the destination he’d avoid and the spot with the friendliest people in the region.

It comes after Europe’s alternative Christmas markets that are a bargain were revealed – with 86p mulled wine and £35 hotel rooms.
Destinations in Poland and Romania could be a great alternative option for a festive getaway.
Meanwhile, Brits wanting to avoid the wet and cold UK weather are in luck as there are plenty of winter sunshine destinations available for bargain prices.
Tunisia, the Canary Islands, Malta and Morocco all offer decent temperatures and are affordable, it was recently found.
