A new £5 billion Paramount Pictures theme park is set to open after plans for one in the UK were dropped last year.
Hwaseong International Theme Park will open close to the capital of South Korea, Seoul, which is already home to multiple large amusement parks, including Lotte World.
According to The Sun, the park could feature rides themed around Nickelodeon, Top Gun and Star Trek.
It comes after the £2.5 billion ‘Dartford Disneyland’ project, also known as the London Resort, was officially scrapped after the company behind it was ordered into liquidation by the High Court in January 2025.
The project, which started in 2012, was planned to be located on the Swanscombe Peninsula near Dartford, Kent, and was billed as Britain’s equivalent to Disneyland Paris.
Promoters of the scheme boasted huge partnerships with the BBC, ITV and Hollywood studio Paramount, which would have seen attractions based on Top Gear, Paddington Bear, Mission: Impossible and Doctor Who.
The concept art for the South Korea attraction is reminiscent of the proposed London Resort.

Visitors can expect the entrance to lead them to Paramount’s mountain.
Rides that are expected to feature range from an attraction themed around a hot air balloon and an inverted roller coaster.
The London location was set to include eight huge roller coasters and different zones containing medieval castles, an Aztec pyramid, a 2,000-seat theatre and a nightclub.
The resort, which was predicted to create 30,000 jobs and bring in 12 million visitors a year, was due to finally open its doors in 2024.
But after accruing over £100 million in debt and falling afoul of Natural England’s decision to designate the land as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the project was finally shut down.
The first section of the Asian park is expected to open in 2030, with the remaining areas to follow five years later.
The park in South Korea is now set to become the movie giant’s first theme park, with an estimated cost of around £5billion

In other theme park news, American YouTuber MrBeast has announced that he will be opening his own theme park this week in Saudi Arabia.
Known for controversial stunts involving eye-popping prizes, the YouTuber said Beast Land will not be a ‘typical theme park’.
In an attraction called ‘Drop Zone’, six people stand on trap doors – a button then lights up in front of all the players, but the person who presses it last gets dropped.
The last player remaining gets the most points.
