The overlooked destination dubbed ‘garden of Europe’ with highs of 24C even after summer – and pints for less than £2

There’s an overlooked destination dubbed the ‘garden of Europe’ that could be worth heading to for a warm break during the cooler months.

Murcia, located in southeastern Spain, is a city with rich history and culture and has plenty of spots to explore.

Authentic Spanish food can be found in a range of independent restaurants, and visitors can enjoy the Catedral de Murcia and the Plaza Cardenal Belluga.

The sunny destination has highs of 24 degrees in November, according to AccuWeather.

Meanwhile, the drinks are affordable too and a pint of lager comes to around €2 (£1.76).

Murcia is ‘Europe’s Orchard’ thanks to its production of fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers, the city is home to a simmering gastronomic scene.

Reasonably priced regional dishes can be found across the city.

What’s more, the area is very flat and walkable, making it easy to venture around.

Spain’s seventh largest city is great for plaza hopping.

There’s the ornate La Glorieta, home to the city’s pink-tinged town hall and grandiose Bishop’s Palace (Palacio Episcopal).

The flower-strewn Plaza de las Flores is worth visiting and the towering cathedral via Plaza de los Apostoles.

Other Spanish spots also provide similar temperatures and landscapes.

Visit anywhere in the Andalusia region of southern Spain and you’ll find plenty of sunshine, even in January.

But during winter, skip the coastal spots like Marbella and Malaga, and head inland to Seville for less of a sea breeze.

During summertime, Seville can be crowded, but by January, the tourists have departed, meaning you’ll have its castles, palaces and cathedrals to enjoy by yourself.

If you’re visiting at the start of the month, don’t miss the Three Kings’ Day parades, complete with colourful floats, live music and lashings of sweets thrown into the street.

Elsewhere, Marrakech was another hotspot and draws in plenty of visitors all year-round.

The Moroccan city can be around 23 degrees in the cooler months.

Sharm El Sheikh proved to be popular with temperatures of around 28 degrees, as well as Antalya in Turkey, which can be around 21 degrees. Meanwhile, Gran Canaria is around 24 degrees.
