You’ve been packing wrong – and it could ruin your holiday, warns expert

With the festive travel season kicking off, thousands of Brits will be jetting off on their Christmas holidays.

While travellers expect their luggage to arrive with them, lost or delayed bags are more common than many realise – and it can quickly turn a dream holiday into a stressful scramble.

If you don’t follow one simple technique, you could lose important items – and your holiday could be ruined.

There’s a simple way travellers can reduce the risk of being left without essentials if a bag goes missing.

The advice comes from SCS Chauffeurs, a luxury airport chauffeur provider serving Manchester Airport and other major UK airports.

The hack? Splitting essential items between multiple suitcases.

Hadleigh Diamond, commercial director at SCS Chauffeurs, explains: ‘Packing all your essentials in one suitcase means if it’s delayed or lost, you’re stranded without basics like medication, chargers, or a change of clothes.

‘We always advise clients travelling in groups or families to split vital items across cases. It’s a straightforward way to soften the blow if bags get separated or lost in transit.’

Delayed or lost baggage is a huge inconvenience, and could easily derail your trip before it even starts.

Hadleigh adds: ‘This is especially important when travelling with children or on tight schedules.

‘Knowing your essentials aren’t all in one place means you’re better prepared for any hiccups on the way.’

There are a couple of simple ways to split your belongings when travelling.

Firstly, distribute your key medication, valuables, chargers, and a change of clothes across suitcases or carry-ons.

Use clear labels with contact details on every bag – this speeds up recovery if luggage goes missing.

Keep important documents and items in your hand luggage.

Always carry passports, tickets, a phone charger, and any immediate essentials with you.

You could also even invest in tracking devices.

Many people use Apple AirTags to help them know where their belongings are, with the trackers instantly connecting to your Apple devices using Find My technology.

Recently, a cheaper alternative that even works for your phone was discovered.

Tile by Life 360 is a Bluetooth tracking device that connects you with others also using the brand’s app.
