As winter kicks into gear and the icy, cold weather properly begins in the UK some Brits might be looking for an escape.
Thankfully, sunny trips can still be found in January and February and at affordable prices.
Off-season holidays can mean less crowded spaces and ‘relaxed exploration’, according to Maria Hughes, from Good To Go Travel Insurance.
It is recommended to book getaways for the next couple of months before the end of the year as prices can ‘jump as demand peaks’, the expert explains.
Maria revealed the top destinations for warmer weather in January and February, and Valletta, in Malta ranked first.
Malta boasts average highs of around 15°C in the cooler months, meaning it won’t feel as chilly as the UK.
The capital has a rich history to explore and plenty of sights to enjoy.
Holidaymakers can find flights for as low as £35 return in February, and £36 in January, according to Skyscanner.

Accommodation is affordable too, and a hotel room for two adults from January 9 to 11 can be bagged on Booking.com from £178.
Elsewhere, Cape Town in South Africa ranks second on Maria’s list, and has average highs of 27°C in January and February.
Visiting then will land you in the midst of the destination’s summer months, guaranteeing dry and sunny weather.
Flights are more expensive than Malta, and price at around £450 for a return trip in January from London.
Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, places third with its highs of 28°C and promises of Caribbean relaxation.
Those hoping to jet off to the tropical spot can grab return flights from around £480 in January.
One popular summer holiday destination has proven to be a good place to visit in the cooler months.
Tenerife ranks fourth, putting the Canary Islands in the top five and reaches highs of around 21°C in January and February.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka places fifth and holidaymakers can enjoy the start of the dry season along the coast in January. It reaches highs of around 32°C.
Barbados follows in sixth place, with January and February also being the destination’s dry season.
Elsewhere, Morocco’s capital, Marrakech, ranks seventh and Florida finishes off the list in eighth place.
