A private island once owned by the Royal Family is up for sale at the price of a semi-detached home.
The 18-acre island sits in an estuary off the North Wales coast and was once owned by Queen Anne, who reigned from 1702 to 1714.
The island and its large Victorian farmhouse, which sits on its eastern shore and was lived in until the 1970s, were given by Queen Anne to the ancestors of Lord Harlech, leading to its nickname ‘Anne’s Gift Island’.
It is listed at a guide price of just £350,000, which makes it comparable to a semi-detached home.
However the island is only accessible by wading through mud at low tide.
Located in the Dwyryd Estuary near the village of Portmeirion, the island is believed to be part of the Glyn Estate owned by the 7th Baron Harlech.
Sellers say the island offers ‘an expansive and unspoilt landscape with uninterrupted panoramic views across the coastline and surrounding mountains’.
The agent said: ‘The property occupies a unique and tranquil position within the Afon Dwyryd estuary, close to the village of Talsarnau.
‘With its combination of heritage and natural beauty it presents an exciting proposition for buyers looking to purchase in a truly special part of Wales.’
