A popular tourist destination in Spain is set to see the price of sunbeds soar, reaching highs of €70 (£60) in some cases.
Beachgoers could face extortionate costs in Palma, Majorca as the cost of umbrellas and sunbeds rise.
Daily rates for standard versions of both items will increase to €10 (£8.70) in 2026, up from €6 (£5.20) in 2019.
The new tariffs come as part of updated seasonal beach services issued by Palma Council.
However, the price of premium loungers will soar to astronomical amounts – increasing from €30 (£26) to €45 (£39) per day, according to a study from the council.
Meanwhile, Balinese beds – luxurious, four-poster outdoor daybeds – will reach €70 (£60) in comparison to €45 (£39) previously.
Public beaches in Palma have been revealed to be charging up to €70 (£60) per day to use premium facilities.
This includes such features as luxury deckchairs and sunloungers.
The price of sunbeds in beaches in Majorca is set to reach astronomical heights
The capital of Majorca will see these updated costs, the Majorca Daily Bulletin reported.
Other changes will include a rise in costs of safe deposit boxes, from €1 (90p) to €5 (£4.40).
It comes after it was last year revealed Majorca would remove up to 1,700 sun loungers from its beaches.
This will take place in a bid to make room for locals who said they were being displaced by tourists.
Palma City Council announced it would reduce the number of sunbeds available on four of the capital’s beaches by 20 per cent, starting in 2026.
In Playa de Palma alone, which is one of the largest beaches in the Spanish holiday hotspot, there are more than 6,000 sun loungers.
City planners are hoping to reduce the number of sunbeds there to 4,436.
The move came amid increasing complaints from local residents who said that due to sunbed and parasol rentals for holidaymakers, there are hardly any free spaces left on the beaches to lay out their towels.
Beaches in the popular holiday destination could face significant changes
It’s not the first time holidaymakers have complained of extortionate costs in Majorca.
Sunbathers were left in shock after a Palma beach revealed it was charging holidaymakers up to £60 a day to use beach equipment back in 2024.
Cala Major, a public beach in Palma, had costs of up to €70 (£60) per day for premium facilities.
A normal set of two deckchairs and an umbrella still set back holidaymakers €25.50, or just under £22, for an entire day.
