British fans of Australia’s famous cartoon dog, Bluey, have just a month to wait before the world’s first rollercoaster themed around the animated character opens in the UK.
Derbyshire theme park Alton Towers has kept fans on tenterhooks in recent months, drip-feeding details about the brand new attraction, which will be called Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies!
Now, it has been confirmed the ride will officially be opening next month, on March 28th, in the park’s CBeebies Land.
And to celebrate the new attraction, Alton Towers this week unveiled a giant portrait of Bluey made from over 11,000 cans of beans.
Located on the park’s expansive lawn, the artwork measures an impressive 20 x 15 metres and took 18 hours to complete.
The portrait is of Bluey, who lives with her parents Bandit and Chilli and younger sister Bing, in her beloved ‘granny’ disguise, sporting a red headscarf wrapped around her.

It references the popular ‘Grannies’ episode where Bluey and Bingo dress up as Janet and Rita, who are mischievous grannies with a habit for slipping on beans.
Howard Ebison, vice president of Alton Towers Resort, said the ride will be ‘all about celebrating energy, play and those everyday moments families love about the show’.
‘The ‘Grannies’ episode is a firm favourite with our guests, so creating a giant Bluey made from more than 11,000 bean cans felt like the perfect way to mark the countdown to opening day,’ he added.
Natasha Spence, events director of Live Entertainment at BBC Studios also explained the link between tins of beans and Bluey.
She said: ‘Grannies’ is an iconic episode of Bluey. We also know that fans associate beans with Bluey and Bingo dressing up as Janet and Rita.
‘Seeing this fantastic on-screen detail brought to life in such an imaginative way, truly celebrates the countdown to the opening of Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! at CBeebies Land at Alton Towers Resort.
‘We are delighted to be working with the team at Alton Towers to create the world’s first Bluey coaster for families across the UK to enjoy this spring Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is specifically designed for pre-schoolers and young families who are taken on a journey through Bluey’s Backyard.’
Last month, Alton Towers released a cartoon depiction of what the coaster will look like, showing a train with Bluey and her younger sister, Bingo sat at the front.

It appears each cart will seat two people, and the ride could be lilac and blue in colour.
Bluey fans can already enjoy experiences themed around their favourite show at Alton Towers.
The theme park regularly hosts Bluey Live, where Bluey, Bingo and their parents Bandit and Chilli, meet and interact with guests during the park’s Big Fun Showtime.
There’s more good news though, the resort recently also announced plans to introduce additional Bluey-themed hotel rooms at the CBeebies Land Hotel.
