TUI launches holidays to Asian city where Michelin-star meals are only a fiver

With futuristic skyscrapers, world-class street food and and tropical gardens, this Asian destination is perfect for travel enthusiasts looking for a far-flung foodie getaway.

Holiday giant TUI has launched new city breaks to Singapore, just in time for the city’s food festival this July.

Breaks will jet off with nine different third-party flight carriers, flying out of London Gatwick, London Heathrow and Manchester airports.

Singapore boasts 30 degrees temperatures year-round and has plenty of captivating food and culture to explore and enjoy.

Those wanting to tuck into the destination’s best cuisine won’t have to cough up a lot either.

Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain once said: ‘Singapore is possibly the most food-centric place on Earth, with the most enthusiastic diners, the most varied and abundant, affordable dishes — available for cheap — on a per-square-mile basis.’

The cheapest Michelin-star meal in the world can be found there at Hawker Chan.

At the legendary food stall, diners can feast on Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice for less than the cost of drinks in London.

There are even hidden island escapes for visitors who want to leave the city and head on an adventure.

Pulau Ubin Island is just a 15-minute bumboat ride from Changi Point.

Holidaymakers can experience a taste of 1960s Singapore and see rustic kampong houses, wild boars and mangrove wetlands.

TUI is offering trips for less than £1,000 per person for a seven-night stay, flying from Manchester in May.

The holiday company’s commercial director Chris Logan says, ‘As experts in city break packages, we know incredible food is a big factor for travellers, and Singapore will serve up an exciting new option for foodies as TUI expands its programme into Asia.’

He describes it as a ‘destination that truly has it all’ from ‘world class cuisine, stunning architecture, hidden natural gems and a unique mix of tradition and innovation’.

Chris adds, ‘Whether you’re there for the food festival, the culture, or just to explore something completely different, Singapore delivers unforgettable experiences at every turn.’

As for other spots to explore, the country’s main hub Changi Airport is a destination in itself.

Many locals even choose to spend the day at the airport even when they don’t have a flight to catch.

The hub boasts a diamond-patterned retail complex set outside terminal one. It’s also home to the Rain Vortex, which at 40 metres (131ft) in height is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

TUI launched another new city break recently –  to Europe’s best-value capital, Bratislava.

Slovakia’s capital offers similar character to what Prague had before it became a party hotspot and has plenty for visitors to explore.

A rectangular hill top castle that dates back to the 9th century offering sweeping views of the area and the Danube River.

The city is very walkable and compact with a bustling old town packed with cobbled streets and picturesque buildings.

City break packages to Bratislava with TUI start from as little as £209 per person and once you’re there, you might find the prices are very reasonable.

The market hall, Nova Trznica, sells local wines for just €2 (£1.72) as well as other traditional food.

Or, if you’d prefer a pub meal, the Slovak Pub is one of the oldest and largest venues in the city and serves up bread bowls filled with soup for just €6.50 (£5.60) and beer for €3 (£2.60).
