Staycations are on the cards for many Britons this year, as international travel remains uncertain with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
However, with the weather in the UK being known for its unpredictability and frequent rainy skies, holidaymakers may be concerned what the forecast could be for their trip.
One in three Brits admit they would cancel future holiday plans if heavy rain was set to fall during their break away, according to new research.
With 76 per cent of Brits planning a staycation this year, Parkdean Resorts’ new Rainy Day Index reveals the best beaches in the UK – where a holiday won’t be ruined by bad weather.
The report compiles Met Office data, geographical information and shelter opportunities to unveil the most rainproof UK beaches to visit.
1. Bournemouth Beach, Dorset

Stretching for seven miles along the Dorset coastline is Bournemouth Beach, which ranked as the best beach to be on if it starts to rain.
The area scored the highest for natural shelter and for having indoor facilities nearby to take cover in, such as cafes and toilets – amounting to 12 in total.
It boasts a rainproof score of 95 out of 100 and proved to be the best for when the weather forecast predicts wet weather.
The beach is largely protected from strong winds due to its proximity to the Isle of Wight at the east, and it has Purbeck Hills offering shelter from the west.
2. Exmouth Beach, Devon
Exmouth Beach, Devon, places second overall and has six indoor spots to take shelter if rain does pour
Bringing Devon into the rankings, Exmouth Beach places second with a rainproof score of 94 out of 100.
The beach sits along the eastern bank of the River Exe estuary which helps to protect from some winds.
If rain does hit, there are six nearby indoor facilities for beach-goers to take shelter.
The beach stretches for two miles and is a sandy spot with plenty of rockpools and water sports for families to enjoy.
3. Weymouth Beach, Dorset

Securing a spot for Dorset’s Jurassic Coast again, Weymouth Beach has a rainproof score of 93 out of 100 and ranked third.
The award-winning beach boasts a beautiful Georgian seafront and ranked second in TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for England’s Best Beach in 2025.
It’s tucked away in a shallow curved bay which helps to shelter from wind, and has the Isle of Portland to protect the beach from the south.
If rain does fall, there are seven indoor spots to head inside as well as a bustling town centre.
4. Woolacombe Beach, Devon
Woolacombe Beach, Devon is a sandy spot with a beautiful backdrop of sandy hills and the Woolacombe Downs
Woolacombe’s long stretch of golden sand could easily be mistaken for a dreamy destination abroad.
And, if it does rain, it’s not a bad place to find yourself. The beach bagged a 92 out of 100 rainproof score and has three indoor facilities nearby to hide from poor weather in.
The bay has repeatedly been named the best in the UK over the years and the West Country spot is popular with families and surfers.
It has a stunning backdrop of sandy hills and the Woolacombe Downs.
5. Paignton Sands, Devon
Paignton Sands, Devon places fifth and bagged a strong rainproof score of 90 out of 100
Another beach in Devon rounds off the top five – Paignton Sands.
Part of the English Riviera, Paignton is a family-friendly favourite with a pier, harbour and a beach that’s easy to access.
There are three nearby spots to take shelter from showers and the beach bagged a strong rainproof score of 90 out of 100.
Sandbanks Beach, Dorset, is a long stretch of golden sands packed with water sports and activities
Securing Dorset’s third and final beach in the top 10 is Sandbanks beach – a small peninsula that crosses the mouth of Poole Harbour.
Along its golden sands are plenty of activities and water sports to enjoy, and it has a rainproof score of 88 out of 100.
There is a promenade with shops and cafes and even a crazy-golf course.
7. Llandudno North, Conwy
Llandudno North, Conwy, ranks seventh and has an impressive selection of 10 indoor facilities nearby
Bringing Wales into the top 10, Llandudno North in Conwy places seventh with a rainproof score of 87.
There are 10 indoor facilities and the coastal town is also home to 19th-century Llandudno Pier.
The bustling Victorian seaside spot has plenty of family-friendly attractions and the historic Great Orme Tramway which has been operating since 1898.
8. Bridlington South, Yorkshire
Bridlington South, Yorkshire places eighth overall and is a spacious sandy beach
Bridlington South beach can be found along the Yorkshire coast and is an expansive, sandy spot perfect for families and dog walkers.
It overlooks Bridlington Bay and visitors can soak in beautiful views of the harbour.
There are 10 indoor facilities to take shelter in during possible rainy weather and it bagged a rainproof score of 87 out of 100.
9. Rhyl Beach, Denbighshire
Rhyl Beach, Denbighshire is another Welsh location to make the list
Located in Denbighshire, North Wales, Rhyl Beach is a long sandy strip mixed with pebbles that stretches for two miles.
With nine indoor spots to head to in the rain and a score of 85, it’s a solid choice for staycation in the UK.
10. Portobello Beach, Midlothian
Portobello Beach, Midlothian finishes off the top 10 with a rainproof score of 85 out of 100
Rounding off the top 10 is Portobello Beach, bringing a Scottish contender to the mix.
Located in Midlothian, just two miles away from Edinburgh city centre, the sandy beach is a popular and vibrant spot.
It has three indoor facilities and a rainproof score of 85 out of 100.
