British Airways launches £2 flights to France and Spain – but there’s a catch

For the bargain price of just £2, plane passengers travelling with British Airways have the opportunity to fly to France and Spain – but not everyone will be eligible for this offer.

The airline recently launched two budget-friendly routes to Madrid and Toulon Saint-Tropez for early summer 2026.

For less than the price of a coffee, travellers have the choice of wandering the historic streets of the Spanish capital before stopping for a refreshing glass of sangria, or topping up their tans and hopping on cable cars to explore the southeastern French city.

Available to book now for May, these flights depart from and return to London City Airport.

However, there’s a catch, as the reduced rate will only be available to members of The British Airways Club – and the flights are Avios-Only.

This means passengers will need to use points to benefit from the £2 flights.

For Toulon, a new destination for the airline, members must have 21,500 points, while a £2 flight to Madrid requires a 28,000 Avios.

Each of the two routes include 23kg checked baggage.

British Airways passengers now have the opportunity to fly to France and Spain for just £2 – but not everyone will qualify

The catch? The ultra-low cost routes will only be available to members of the British Airways Club, and 28,000 Avios points will be required to purchase a £2 flight to Madrid (pictured)

Since launching in 2023, British Airways has operated a total of 48 Avios-Only flights to 16 destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East, including Cape Town, Barbados, Málaga, Marrakesh, and Sharm El Sheikh.

With this latest launch, the airline will exceed 50 dedicated Avios-Only flights, with the return flight from Madrid to London marking the 50th milestone.

Colm Lacy, British Airways’ chief commercial officer, said: ‘We’re excited to release these latest Avios-Only flights, to two top leisure destinations for summer.

‘These flights are always incredibly popular, and we’re delighted to give our loyal customers even more opportunities to enjoy the benefits of The British Airways Club.’

Adam Daniels, IAG Loyalty’s CEO, added: ‘While it’s not been too long since our last Avios-Only flight, we are excited to be starting the year by announcing another two flights on London City Airport’s hottest new routes to Toulon and Madrid.

‘With all seats onboard only available to book with Avios, the initiative shows the continued power of loyalty, and opens up greater redemption opportunities for customers during the peak summer months.’

In December, British Airways announced it would increase the price of its rewards flights, affecting both Avios points and cash elements of fares.

BA has said it is making these changes as a result of increasing Air Passenger Duty (APD) and third-party charges, as well as changing market conditions and ongoing inflation.

For Toulon (pictured), a new destination for the airline, members must have 21,500 points to qualify for the £2 deal

The updates were announced in the Chancellor’s Budget in November 2025.

A BA spokesman said: ‘Our Reward Flight saver flights continue to offer our members incredible value, but a combination of factors has left us with no choice but to increase our prices.

‘We’ve given members as much notice as we could to help them plan ahead.’

Initially, economy seat passengers needed 50,000 points and £100 – which increased to 55,000 points and £120 after December 15, 2025.
