Long before Emily in Paris, tourists were drawn to the French capital by films such as An American in Paris, Audrey Hepburn’s 1957 musical Funny Face, the 2001 hit Amélie and blockbusters such as The Da Vinci Code and The Devil Wears Prada.
And regardless of the budget, many travellers are desperate to catch a glimpse of landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame Cathedral, which are often depicted in film and TV.
Following the release of the fifth season of Emily in Paris, researchers have revealed how much the main character’s lifestyle would really cost.
Each year, Paris attracts around 50 million tourists from all corners of the globe.
Many of these visitors come with cash to splash and the hope of recreating their favourite film set in the capital.
Those with the deepest pockets can stay at the world-renowned Ritz hotel, shop at the Triangle d’Or and Champs-Élysées, and dine out at one of the many Michelin-starred restaurants.
It comes as the digital marketing agency Searchbloom has revealed the expensive lifestyle of Emily Cooper, the protagonist of the hit Netflix series.
Over recent years, Parisians have winced through the beret-wearing main character’s stumbling pronunciations of ‘champignons’ as she hopped around the Eiffel Tower and trotted by Montmartre.

Working as a marketing executive in Paris would earn Emily an annual salary of around £36,300, the digital marketing agency estimates.
However, the research shows that this wouldn’t be enough to maintain the character’s expensive lifestyle.
Emily’s iconic Paris apartment in the Latin Quarter would realistically cost around £24,477 annually to rent.
Utilities are another essential yet pricey expense and Emily’s bills would add up to £1,752 a year, according to Searchbloom.
The character is also frequently seen dining out at restaurants across Paris. Going out to eat at least twice a week in the city would add up to a total annual cost of £2,393.
Other expenses, like regularly getting taxis across the city, going out for cocktails at least twice a week, and grabbing daily cups of coffee, would also add up to a high annual cost of £3,300.
Emily is often spotted wearing a selection of luxury brands, ranging from Chanel to Hermès. One of her most expensive pieces includes the Vassilis Zoulias yellow printed jacket from season two, which comes with a price tag of £39,878.
It’s estimated that Emily’s lavish wardrobe would cost around £56,698 per year.

France is a top global luxury market, with sales reaching billions of euros annually.
During Paris Fashion Week, the average tax-free spend per international shopper reached £2,326 (€2,690) in 2025.
Based on these figures, it’s thought that Emily’s Parisian lifestyle would cost more than £90,000 to maintain each year, which would realistically leave the character in debt by around more than £50,000.
For those looking to emulate the titular character of Emily in Paris, loose purse strings may be needed.
