How you can buy cheap day passes for 5-star hotels – and enjoy all the luxury facilities for less

A traveller has shared her ‘bougie-on-a-budget travel hack’ for keeping things fancy but cheap on holiday.

Em, @emsbudgettravel on Instagram, recently travelled to Mumbai, and at the end of her trip, booked herself in to a five-star hotel.

‘As my flight isn’t until this evening, I thought I’d treat myself with a day pass to a five-star hotel,’ she explained in a video.

The travel expert revealed that ‘hotels rarely advertise’ the day passes, but she gets them ‘all the time’ during her adventures.

‘It’s perfect if you have a flight home in the evening as it means you don’t have to drag your bags around the city after you’ve checked out,’ Em added.

She shared how it was a ‘great way to relax after a busy trip’.

‘Plus it’s usually way cheaper than actually staying the night, but you still get full use of the facilities,’ she continued.

The traveller checked into the Aurika by Lemon Tree Hotel which is located nearby Mumbai airport.

‘It cost me £36 for the day rate and that’s per room, not per person, so if you’re travelling with someone else, it would be even cheaper,’ Em explained.

She shared footage of her room and pool area where she was able to relax and recuperate.

During her day, she ‘spent a few hours chilling by the pool and having a swim’ and even ordered food for just £5 to the hotel.

‘Then I headed back to the room to take a very long shower, wash my hair and have a quick nap before getting an Uber to the airport,’ Em added.

She ended the video by saying how she felt it was an ‘excellent’ way to spend her final day in Mumbai.

To get a pass like Em, you need to head to Resort Pass, DayPass and Hotel Treats – which are just some of the apps offering a day’s access to facilities for around £30.

Em’s day enjoying a luxurious hotel came after a trip to India that she was originally warned against going on.

In another video, the tourist revealed when she told other people she would be visiting India alone, she received mixed responses and many told her it wouldn’t be safe, ‘especially as a girl’.

Despite this, the keen traveller still pushed ahead with the trip and went to Mumbai anyway.

‘So naturally, this didn’t stop me at all and I went anyway, but safe to say I was a little apprehensive,’ Em explained in the video.

Though she described it as an ‘adventure’ in the end, there was some parts that were ‘overwhelming at times’.

‘Of course I knew it could be loud and dirty in places and that there would be people everywhere, but nothing really prepares you for stepping out of the airport, into the chaos at the taxi rank,’ Em shared.

The tourist decided to stay in a hostel in Bandra instead of a hotel so she would meet other solo travellers.
