Little English village famous for witchcraft is the perfect weekend getaway this Halloween

Streets scattered with crunchy leaves and characterful coffee shops, there is a spot in Hampshire that makes the perfect weekend getaway location.

Burley is a quaint New Forest village that boasts traditional butchers, bakeries and plenty of cosy pubs.

What’s more, visitors might even bump into cattle and ponies that free roam the area and belong to locals.

It has been described as a ‘cute, little village in the New Forest that’s well-known for witchcraft and quirky shops’, in a video posted by Elise Tanrivrdi, @elisetanriverdi.

Witchcraft was first introduced to the area in the 1950s when Sybil Leek lived in the village.

The ‘white witch’ was known for roaming around wearing a black cloak, and her pet jackdaw sat on her shoulder.

Aside from spooky practices, Elise also recommends a local coffee shop called Noohn, which she describes as ‘one of the cutest coffee shops in the area’.

For something more substantial, the content creator explains how there are ‘a few places here to grab lunch’.

Alternatively, visitors could go to nearby Lyndhurst where there are plenty of options for ‘shopping, coffee and restaurants’.

Burley has a rich history – the area has been inhabited for centuries, and there is an Iron Age hillfort site located close by.

Elise urges people spending the day there to ‘head out to a farm shop to find some local produce, another coffee if you fancy it, and then go for a walk’ in the afternoon.

She says, ‘There are countless walking trails around the New Forest, but some of my favourites include the Appleslade Walk in Ringwood, the Brockenhurst Village Walk and the Horseshoe Bottom Walk, which is also in Brockenhurst.

‘After your walk you’ll be pretty hungry, so head to a pub or restaurant for dinner, and if it’s Sunday, then a roast dinner is a must.’

The solo traveller is passionate about New Forest and earlier in her video, gushes how the ‘colours are so beautiful during October and November’.

She continues, ‘They’re easily my favourite months to visit especially if you get a sunny weekend.’

Elise emphasises how beautiful the area is ‘during the autumn months’.

Another village has gone viral recently and boasts cobbled streets and old, characterful stone buildings.

Haworth has a rich history and draws in thousands of visitors a year.

Its links to the Brontë sisters, who grew up in Haworth Parsonage in the 19th century, only add to the village’s charm. Travellers can even pop into The Original Brontë Stationery Store, where the sisters used to buy their writing paper.

Haworth, located in West Yorkshire, is home to dozens of independent shops, cafes and picturesque spots to explore.
