People share DIY fails that will make you wish they paid a professional

When something breaks at home, the most efficient among us will simply replace it, quickly.

There are others – people with bulging cupboards – who will choose to ignore the issue by placing the tainted item out of sight.

And then there are those – let’s call them ‘the resourceful’ – who, remarkably, summon the courage, commitment and creativity to actually tackle the problem, no matter how hopeless or boring the task may appear.

These photos from around the world and collated by Bored Panda are testament to the ingenuity – and good humour – of that third category.

Tree a crowd! One woodworker from Brazil  found a creative solution when the base of their lamp broke

Crafty in the kitchen! This baker, from Finland, wasn’t going to be slowed down by a broken electric whisk

Easy does it! Why bother reading the DIY books when they offer a more straightforward solution? That’s what his DIY-enthusiast from the US did

A lost lampshade shouldn’t be a problem so long as there are spare cups lying around

Rather than dealing with the damp patch in a traditional way, one UK office added a picture of Big Bird from the Muppets

It may not be a sustainable solution, but this is one US Dad’s solution to stop the dishwasher opening mid-cycle

One person thought better of wasting money on a new bin, choosing instead to improvise with an upside down stool

Even popular fast food chains sometimes have to improvise. This Dunkin’ Donuts in the US added a baby monitor when their Drive Thru speakers weren’t working

Not what you want to see! easyJet passengers saw an engineer taking up their plane with tape on a UK flight

Tasked with securing the farm, someone sensibly thought to install a gate with a lock – it’s just a shame they didn’t think about fencing
