Being greeted by smiling, friendly and helpful staff can all but guarantee a fantastic time.
But how much do these hard-working inviduals actually earn?
The answer is it depends on a variety of factors – such as what job they have, their level of seniority, the cruise line and if they get tips.
At the top end of earnings are captains, who could make up to AUD 30,000 a month (£14,920).
Chief engineers, hotel managers, executive chefs, cruise directors and doctors could earn up to AUD 15,000 a month (£7,461).
However, waiters might expect between AUD 1,400 (£695) and AUD 3,800 (£1,890) a month depending on the cruise line, and kitchen workers somewhere in the middle of that range, the Sydney Morning Herald revealed.
Tip earnings could greatly alter the overall income staff make, though.

Bartenders and butlers are likely to rake in impressive tips.
On the other end of the scale, pot-washers and laundry workers usually go without tips, unless cruise companies distribute tips evenly between crew members.
Salaries are given per month as most workers have short-term contracts of just six or nine months.
The highest salaries overall go to those who run the cruise companies – not necessarily those who work on the vessels.
Cruise chief executives make up to 1398 times more the median employee salary, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Earlier this year, it was revealed by a cruise blogger that cruise ship captains’ salaries can vary quite a lot.
New captains often start on a salary of around $50,000 (£37,000) a year, they said.
Wages generally rise as captains gain more experience in the industry.

And travellers have often hailed cruises as great value trips – with one going as far as to say that living on a cruise is cheaper than on land.

She says people might be shocked by how affordable the lifestyle can be.
