Fortunately, there are budget resorts out there across Europe that can help cut the cost of an otherwise expensive trip.
Balancing decent snow coverage, an enjoyable holiday and the concept of satellite villages that give access to bigger ski zones, The Telegraph’s Peter Hardy compiled a list of some of the best budget ski resorts.
For an affordable ski trip, here’s a pick from some of the top ski countries in Europe.
France is most people’s go-to destination for skiing, with the Alps attracting millions of skiers every year.
Satellite village Vaujany, in France, is a good option for those who don’t want to cough up for bigger resorts, according to The Telegraph.
It’s possible to still ski Alpe d’Huez’s impressive slopes and you can grab a lift pass for a family for six days priced at €167.50 per person.
A return flight from London for one person staying December 8 to 15 to the closest airport, Grenoble, comes to £59, as per Skyscanner.

Madesimo, in Italy, is another good option and is best suited for intermediates skiers.
There are plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy in the small village, and in the low season, a six-day ski pass can be bagged from around €246.
A direct return flight from London to Milan Bergamo costs just £142.
Pal-Arinsal-La Massana, in Andorra can be a cheaper option than some destinations in the Alps.
A good choice for beginners and intermediates, a six-day adult lift pass can be found for €261 as an online exclusive price, otherwise it can be €306 at the ticket office.
Flights from London to Toulous, which is around three hours away from the resort, cost £64.
In Austria, Niederau is a great option for beginners and those looking to learn more about the sport.
With 60 years experience of teaching newbies and spacious nursery slopes, it costs between €206 and €229 for a six-day lift pass.
A return flight can be bagged for £116 per person in Decmeber.

Slovakia attracts hordes of skiers a year and Jasná is the largest in the country. Food and drink prices are low and a six-day pass comes to around €250.
Meanwhile, a return flight from London to Krakow, which is around a three hour transfer, comes to £55.
Bansko in Bulgaria is the country’s number one resort and is a great option for more experienced skiers.
A lift pass, as well as ski and pole hire, comes to €354 for six days and return flights to the closest hub, Sofia airport, come to £79.
