From Romeo + Juliet and The Great Gatsby to Elvis and Moulin Rouge, director Baz Luhrmann’s work is known for being ostentatious, glamorous and colourful.
And his latest project, a new private dining and events carriage onboard the iconic British Pullman train, promises to be no different.
Set to launch in summer 2026, the British Pullman, a Belmond Train, will present the new carriage called ‘Celia’, designed by the filmmaker in collaboration with Oscar-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin.
Operating as a self-contained private carriage within the train, Celia will have its own dedicated stewards.
Celia will depart from London’s Victoria Station across all British Pullman journeys, offering travellers an exclusive entertainment venue.
It will also provide the opportunity to personalise both onboard and offboard experiences.
Seating up to 12 guests, the carriage, in addition to its dining area, features a lounge and bar, as well as pantry and kitchen.
On request, a private chef can design customised menus using British seasonal produce.
Taking inspiration from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Celia carriage promises glamour

The carriage will be inspired by the British countryside as well as works by Shakespeare.
Its name is inspired by Luhrmann’s fictional muse, Celia.
For the filmmaker in an imagined reality, the character of Celia was the leading lady in a West End performance as Titania, Queen of the Fairies, in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, for which she was given her own Pullman car in 1932.
As such, the train carriage’s interiors are inspired by the play.
An elaborate fabric ceiling will crown the space, and the interiors will boast thick velvet upholstered furniture.
It will be filled with floral motifs, with furnishings in rich greens, yellows, reds and purples.
Heavy theatre-style curtains will divide up the space, and a mosaic and hand-painted ceiling and walls make up the separate powder room, decorated in flowers and motifs.
Baz Luhrmann said: ‘Creating Celia was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, allowing us to push the boundaries of creativity, luxury, and uniqueness.

‘Stepping inside the carriage is like being transported into another world, and one in which guests are invited to become part of the story.
‘Celia, at its heart, is a magical mystery tour – a traveling dining experience for friends or an intimate celebration, filled with food, music, wine, laughter, and performance.
‘All of this unfolds as you drift through the countryside, feeling as though you’ve stepped inside A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
‘It’s a playful and exceptionally unique way to explore the UK, at your own pace and according to your own rhythm and story.’
Prices for the exclusive use of Celia carriage aboard the British Pullman, A Belmond Train start from £15,000 and include transfers within Greater London.
