The cheapest days to fly and the ones to AVOID this winter, according to travel experts

Many Brits seek to escape the cold UK weather during the winter and book a holiday somewhere with a much warmer climate.

Or, they might want to jet off on a festive break where snow is guaranteed and they can really get into the Christmas spirit.

Either way, there are certain dates that are cheaper for that break, and travel experts from Expedia have revealed when.

Plenty of European destinations have seen an increase in interest, especially Wrocław, Poland, which saw a 195 per cent surge in searches.

Meanwhile, Burcharest in Romania had a 115 per cent and Malta 115 per cent.

For holidaymakers hoping to jet off on an international flight for a winter break, the cheapest dates are December 4 and 5.

The most expensive dates, and perhaps the ones to avoid, are December 17 and 21.

Closer to home, trending spots in the UK include Fort William which has seen a 145 per cent surge in interest, Tenby has a 105 per cent increase and Canterbury 55 per cent.

The cheapest dates for domestic flights are February 3 and 26.

There are certain dates to avoid, too, if you’re wanting to save money during your travels.

According to Expedia, the most expensive dates for domestic flights proved to be December 17 and January 3.

‘The cheapest days to travel vary this winter, with the lowest international fares in early December and domestic bargains at the beginning and end of February,’ said Melanie Fish, spokesperson for Expedia Group.

‘Keep those time frames in mind to find the best deals, and don’t forget to bundle your hotel and flight, and you could unlock more savings.’

Accommodation can vary in price during the cooler season, too.

For domestic stays, it can be cheaper to book on January 5 and 26, while international trips might be more affordably on January 16 and February 2.

It can be more expensive to stay in the UK on December 28 and 29.

Meanwhile, accommodation costs abroad can add up on December 27 and February 14.

Expedia also shared tips for how to make the most of winter getaways and advises to take advantage of price alerts.

Holidaymakers can sign up for notifications to tell them when an airline drops ticket prices.

Sales, such as the Black Friday event, are also great ways to bag bargains.
