Travelling to dreamy destinations around the world can feel like an expensive venture, but there are plenty of tips and tricks to help cut the cost.
From the time of the year you book the flights, to the exact month you end up travelling and the destination you head to, there are many factors that can influence how pricey things become.
But now, the exact month holidaymakers should pull out their laptops and start searching for flights has been calculated in Expedia’s 2026 Air Hacks Report.
The research has analysed the behaviour, habits and booking data of travellers to identify the latest travel trends.
And the cheapest month to book your flights is May – proving to be 21 per cent cheaper than the most expensive time of year, December.
For domestic flights, January is the best time to start booking, whereas August is 26 per cent pricier.
As for when to actually fly, June works out to be the most affordable month to jet off on a holiday and is 68 per cent cheaper than December, which costs £250 more on average.

There are plenty of destinations that cost under £100 to fly to.
Expedia has named several ‘saver routes’, including Luton to Poznan, the fifth-largest city in Poland, which works out at just £79.
Meanwhile, a flight from Stansted to Shannon, Ireland, costs around £88, and Liverpool to Bergamo, Italy comes to £92.
For those looking to go to the Emerald City, flights from Glasgow International to Dublin cost £96.
Or if you need a different airport, East Midlands to Dublin is only £1 more.
There are several routes that are seeing huge year-on-year decreases in price too, and some of the biggest savings are over 40 per cent.
Newcastle to Gdansk, Poland has shot down in price by 67 per cent, while Manchester to Cork has seen a decrease in price of 65 per cent.
Birmingham to Bordeaux, France has gone down by 58 per cent.

If you’re looking for a more peaceful, less busy journey, the quietest dates to fly are March 4, 5 and 9.
Unsurprisingly, December 31 is also one of the quietest dates, based on booking data.
Or for even more savings, the cheapest day to fly is often a Friday, which is 18 per cent less than the most expensive day, Saturday.
But, Saturday happens to be the most affordable day of the week to book business class flights.
Wednesday is a day to avoid however, as it tends to be 10 per cent more costly to book then.
