The most popular holiday destination for Brits revealed – and it’s only a short flight away

As 2025 draws closer to the winter months, the popular holiday destinations of the year have been revealed.

It seems sunnier skies are the order of the day for Brits – with the top spot going to a well-trodden European option.

Spain is the most popular holiday destination for Brits, according to the ABTA Holiday Habits 2025 Report.

It ranked the favourite destinations over the last year – and handed the crown to the holiday hotspot.

Europe’s popularity overall is reflected in its dominance of the most favoured countries visited by UK holidaymakers in the last 12 months.

Spain retained its top spot with 32 per cent of people taking a trip there this past year.

And the report predicts it will keep its title for the year ahead.

In second place was France, another popular spot.

Following closely behind was Italy in third place – visited by 18 per cent of travellers in the past 12 months.

With 14 per cent of holidaymakers opting for the USA, it comes in fourth place.

And in the fifth spot is Greece, with 12 per cent of tourists picking the country as a travel destination.

The report predicts a similar lineup of the top five destinations for the year to come.

Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA, said: ‘As a nation, we are “determined to discover” places and experiences through our holidays, whether that’s uncovering new delights in our favourite destinations or exploring a new place entirely, holidays offer lots of opportunity for discovery.

‘Despite a challenging and changeable global environment, people are still heading overseas, and even more so this year.

‘It shows we have a resilient sector, and that is often down to the work the travel industry does to help people feel confident to travel.’

Other countries joined the list for popular travel locations.

Germany, Portugal and Turkey took spots six to eight.

In ninth place was Australia – and Austria came 10th.

The report uses data from ABTA’s annual Holiday Habits survey, with a nationally representative sample of 2,001 UK adults.

The 2025 survey took place in July and August.
