Life at sea no longer means leaving your beloved pets behind – as one residential cruise ship is allowing passengers to bring their animal companions on board.
Fabled Voyages, which specialises in long-term residential cruising, announced its new Pets Onboard program, designed to allow passengers to live full-time at sea with their cats and dogs.
The company will begin accepting deposits on March 30, 2026.
As interest in residential cruising continues to grow among retirees, remote workers, and long-stay travellers, Fabled Voyages is hoping to appeal to guests keen to stay close to their pets.
The cruise line is addressing a key barrier to long-term travel by creating a home at sea that accommodates the entire household – including pets.
The Fabled Voyages website explains: ‘At Fabled Voyages, we believe you shouldn’t have to choose between the life you want and the companions you love most.
‘Dogs and cats are welcome on board the ship, allowing residents to continue life, routines, and global exploration without leaving anyone behind.’
Dogs weighing up to 40 lbs (18 kg) who are well-behaved in shared spaces and comfortable with long-term ship living will be permitted.

Similarly, cats must weigh up to approximately 20 lbs (9 kg), and must be suitable for communal living and capable of adapting to the ship environment.
Passengers will need to pay a one-time deposit of $1,000 (£751) per pet, a non-refundable deposit that supports preparation, deep-cleaning standards, and onboard readiness for arrival.
Plus, a monthly pet fee will cost $130 (£97) and covers ongoing cleaning protocols, designated pet areas, and operational care considerations for long-term animal residency.
Onboard amenities include open-air walking spaces, veterinary care, grooming services and pet-friendly areas.
Pets must meet established health and vaccination standards before boarding.
Madison Miller, founder and CEO of Fabled Voyages, said: ‘Pets are family for many of our future residents.
‘Our responsibility was to design a program that respects that bond while maintaining comfort, safety, and harmony on board.’
Unlike traditional cruise lines that prohibit animals or allow them only in limited circumstances, Fabled Voyages treats pets as long-term residents.
The company’s ships will provide dedicated spaces and services for onboard animals
Madison added: ‘Our goal is not to build a cruise centered around pets.
‘It is to remove unnecessary limitations that prevent people from embracing long-term exploration.’

It’s not the only cruise line to allow animals on board.

It revealed the lengths the company goes to to keep four-legged passengers – and their owners – happy on the high seas.
During its 180 years of seafaring, the company has regularly cared for animals that come aboard.
Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 is happy to have much loved animals aboard on some of its transatlantic sailings.
The show gives viewers a glimpse inside the dedicated quarters that pets are housed in while they make the seven-day passage from Southampton to New York.
A kennelmaster named Oliver, effectively a pet butler, is charged with looking after the canine companions who board.
Dogs are taken for regular strolls on deck and, in the kitchen, the ship’s team of chefs create pet menus that include the finest ingredients.
