If you’re dreaming of a new home with sun-soaked beaches and traditional Mediterranean charm without the crowds, a property expert has shared an unknown Spanish town that ticks all the boxes.
Cameron Hamilton, Director at 5 Real Estate and a specialist in Spanish property sales, has named Javea – or Xàbia in Valencian – as the ultimate destination for Brits looking to relocate or invest in a holiday home by the sea.
Located on the northern Costa Blanca, the town attracts visitors year-round from across Europe thanks to its diverse landscape and historic small town setting – but does not suffer from overtourism like other hotspots in Spain.
Set between lush green hills and the sparkling blue waters of the Mediterranean, Javea offers a mix of secluded beaches, rocky coves, and pine forests that give the town a unique character compared to more built-up coastal spots.
One standout location is Playa de la Granadella, a picturesque cove often ranked among Spain’s best beaches.
Hamilton said: ‘Its pebbled shoreline is framed by pine forests, creating a stunning contrast with the sea, and is one of the top diving and snorkelling destinations in the area, thanks to its vibrant marine life and crystal-clear waters.’
Javea is home to a population of just over 30,000, meaning it retains a peaceful, authentic vibe while offering modern amenities British buyers look out for, such as international schools, healthcare, upmarket shopping and a vibrant expat community.
Javea’s sandy beach area, Playa del Arenal, stretches over 300 metres with plenty of cafes and restaurants, while Cala Granadella offers a more secluded experience for those seeking peace and quiet.

For prospective buyers, property options in the area are varied and surprisingly affordable.
According to Hamilton, Beachfront apartments start from around €145,000 (£125,500), while hillside villas with sea views can be found from €165,000 (£142,000).
He added that Javea’s pleasant year-round weather makes the town ideal for both holiday homes and permanent residences.
But the property expert insists it’s not just the lifestyle that attracts Brits to Spain’s Costa Blanca – there are practical reasons, too.
He said: ‘Costa Blanca offers a blend of authentic Spanish culture and strong expatriate communities. There’s a balance of exposure to a new lifestyle and access to a familiar community and social life.
‘The cost of living is also generally lower than in many other parts of Europe, which makes it attractive for retirees looking to make the most of their savings.
‘The healthcare system is also widely regarded as being of a very high standard and includes both public and private care.’
It comes as a new survey has found that more than half of British holidaymakers actively avoided Spain this summer, as anti-tourist protests across popular regions appear to be pushing travellers away.

The research, from eSIM phone network Slice Mobile, polled over 2,000 travellers from across the UK, and nearly eight out of 10 said these demonstrations had made Spain a less appealing option – despite 70 per cent admitting it had traditionally been their go-to getaway.
Younger generations are leading the charge in booking alternative destinations, with 68 per cent of Gen Z and 62 per cent of millennials the most likely to have ditched Spain this year – including a whopping 78 per cent of 18 to 19-year-olds.
While boomers are swapping the Costas for the Amalfi Coast, young Brits are opting for far-flung destinations such as Dubai, which emerged as the top choice for 27 per cent of Gen Z travellers, compared to just 2 per cent of boomers.
The United States also proved popular with the younger crowd (23 per cent of Gen Z versus 6 per cent of boomers) – highlighting a generational shift toward more adventurous, long-haul destinations outside of the EU.
