The top last-minute winter destination for Brits revealed – with temperatures averaging 24 degrees

Plenty of Brits are keen to escape the UK’s grey skies and cool weather, and are jetting off to warmer winter destinations around the world. 

New research has revealed that more than half of UK holidaymakers are booking their trips at the last minute. 

Many are making the reservations within six weeks of the holiday, and seven per cent are booking it just seven days before they jet off.

But where are they flying to? Lastminute.com has revealed the top winter sun destinations for 2025.

Some 70 per cent of winter sun and beach holidays are booked by couples, and they’re heading off to a range of locations.  

Lanzarote proved to be the most popular with 71 per cent of couples booking a trip to the popular Spanish spot in the cooler months.

The sunny island sees average temperatures of 24 degrees in the winter and is well-loved for its beaches and cuisine.  

Another Canary island, Tenerife, closely followed with 69 per cent and boasts temperatures of 23 degrees.

Joining the top three destinations is Dubai which accounted for 69 per cent of the bookings.

The popular Middle Eastern spot sees temperatures of around 31 degrees in the winter and draws in visitors with its impressive landscapes and luxurious shopping malls. 

Malta was another well-loved location for a winter break with gorgeous cuisine and rich culture drawing people in. 

What’s more, the Mediterranean island has temperatures around 21 degrees in the winter.  

Costa Blanca, in Spain made it on Lastminute.com’s popular winter destinations list and can be around 20 degrees.

Elsewhere, Marrakech was another hotspot and draws in plenty of visitors all year-round.

The Moroccan city can be around 23 degrees in the cooler months. 

Sharm El Sheikh proved to be popular with temperatures of around 28 degrees, as well as Antalya in Turkey, which can be around 21 degrees. Meanwhile, Gran Canaria is around 24 degrees.

It comes as new research revealed the cheapest holiday spots for all-inclusive winter sun. 

Hammamet, in Tunisia, is a characterful fishing village with a beautiful coastline and plenty of things to do. 

It’s also the most-affordable destination, according to TravelSupermarket’s recent analysis.

A seven-night stay comes to just £328 per person and temperatures average at around 17 degrees.
