Woman shares ‘genius’ £2.29 hack to avoid paying £30 baggage fee at the airport

A woman from South Wales discovered a clever tactic to avoid an airport baggage fee – and it cost her just £2.29.

Sick of extortionate costs for taking luggage on board, Laura Poole decided to take alternative measures.

She wrote on Facebook: ‘I’m flying Bristol to Glasgow on Sunday. My flight cost £25… cabin baggage fees £30. That’s more than my flight!!!

‘Can I afford baggage fees? Absolutely. Will I pay them? No! (On principle).

‘Packed up my gym bag with 60 per cent of the clothes I’m taking, shoved it in a Lidl bag then dropped it off at an Inpost locker to be posted up to Dundee and will arrive at the Tesco Express near my hotel the day I arrive – £2.29!

‘And I have one less bag to carry. I did this the end of last year too. It’s so good!

‘I’m quietly protesting baggage fees.’

Pesky baggage fees are a massive bugbear among travellers in the UK

Her parcel reportedly arrived safely and on time, according to Wales Online.

Viewers were impressed by Laura’s tactic, and took to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One wrote: ‘My daughter is at Glasgow University, we live in Croydon. She flies or if she sees a cheap train ticket goes by train to use the time to study. She posts what she is bringing down, and posts it back.

‘She’s been doing this for two years. Nothing has gone missing and it has saved a fortune. It is usually the equivalent of two suitcases! Costs less than £30.’

Another added: ‘I love this – I have packing down to a fine art (stuffed pockets, stuffed neck cushion, a really nifty under seat bag and a duty free bag). But I’ll certainly remember this.’

A third chimed in: ‘Brilliant, the additional charges they apply for taking a bag on is ridiculous.’

A fourth commented: ‘This is genius! I’m flying to Edinburgh and I hate sleeping without my own pillow. I’ll be posting myself some clothes that I can miss for a few days!’

There are plenty of other ways to save costs on baggage fees.

One sneaky traveller managed to successfully avoid paying Ryanair’s baggage fees by creating a fake pregnancy bump.

Grace Hale shoved two jackets and a bag full of makeup inside her top after realising they wouldn’t fit in her carry-on baggage.

Another traveller shared an ingenious trick to save costs – by stuffing an empty neck pillow with items that would otherwise force her to pay for additional baggage.
