World’s cleanest airports revealed – and no UK hub makes the cut

The UK has several major airports – from London Heathrow to Manchester – and many connect the country to long-haul destinations, seeing millions of passengers pass through a year.

But, despite having such an impressive range of travel hubs, none of them made it onto the Airports Council International list of the cleanest airports.

The 2025 ASQ Customer Experience Awards highlights airports for their ‘excellence in customer experience’.

For the cleanest airport category, 30 of the best hubs were listed across the world – from Africa, Latin America-Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, North America and Europe.

Girona-Costa Brava Airport in Costa Brava, Spain was listed as one of the top European airports for cleanliness.

Malta International Airport, in Luqa, Malta earned a spot on the list, as did another Spanish hub – Pamplona Airport.

Several American hubs were named for their high standards of cleanliness, including Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the airport serves more than 100 flights each day.

Salt Lake City International Airport was the third American hub to make the cleanest list.

Other awards by the Airports Council International included most enjoyable airport, easiest airport journey, most dedicated staff, best airports at arrivals, globally and best airports at departures, by size and region.

Despite its huge range of hubs, the UK was only mentioned in the five to 15 million passengers per year category for best airports at departures, by size and region, with Belfast International Airport and Newcastle International Airport making the cut.
