Sometimes flights can be so long that passengers eat multiple meals and manage to take a nap during the journey.
But after such a lengthy trip, it might also feel more comfortable to change into fresh clothes afterwards.
Or, during the journey it could be tempting to switch over into cosy pyjamas and rest.
Several travel experts have weighed in with their take on the travel dilemma of whether to pack a change of clothes.
Jo Hayes, founder of Etiquette Expert, revealed to the Washington Post exactly what she brings with her for ten-hour plus flights.
For Jo, two spare pairs of socks and a pair of underwear is essential, as well as a pair of trousers and a top.
The expert switches her outfit over in the bathroom or during a layover.
She also uses a toiletry kit consisting of a brush, moisturiser, deodorant and a few other items she uses regularly as part of her ‘bedtime routine’.

Jo explained how she doesn’t want to appear untidy for her fellow passengers and said: ‘We do well to treat ourselves, and others, with the dignity we all deserve.’
Clare Tobin, from Wild Frontiers, agrees on packing spare clothes during a long-haul and actually brings a full change with her.
She specifically chooses anti-wrinkle clothing to try and reduce creases, and like Jo, brings toiletries along with her too.
However, she warns against taking too long in the toilet on the plane to freshen up, as it isn’t very fair on the other passengers.
For Alison Cheperdak, from Elevate Etiquette, a change of clothes isn’t essential or a case of etiquette.
Instead, it’s down to personal preference, she argued, though it is important to look presentable.
Another handy piece of advice for long-haul flights was previously shared by a TUI cabin crew member.
Charlie Silver revealed in a TikTok video a button hidden on aisle seat armrests that enables them to be lifted up and pushed back.

In the clip, shared to her page, @silvercharlie, in 2023, she can be seen demonstrating from an aisle seat how the armrest doesn’t lift up as seamlessly as the others in the row do.
Sliding her hand towards the back underside of the armrest, near the hinge, the UK-based flight attendant pushed a button that released it from its position, allowing it to be pushed back out of the way.
The hidden button is primarily an accessibility feature for passengers needing assistance to board or exit, but it can also improve comfort for all on board.
It not only provides extra space on aisle seats, but it makes it easier for people in each row to get in and out of their seats when they need to stretch their legs or use the lavatory.
