And this year, the Paris Opera is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Palais Garnier, a momentous milestone.
Opening in January 1875, the Palais Garnier has a rich cultural history and has hosted a long line of ballet and opera performances.
It was designed by architect Charles Garnier as part of a project initiated by Napoleon III.
It is a theatre as well as a public venue for festivities and performances.
It draws in over a million visitors and nearly 350,000 spectators from all over the world each year.
To celebrate its 150th anniversary, the Paris Opera is organising events including concerts, exhibitions, encounters, a behind-the-scenes documentary and themed tours.
