On the southern tip of Gran Canaria is a vast, golden sand beach known for its year-round sun and clear, blue waters.
The Spanish resort of Maspalomas boasts average daily temperatures of 22C and more than 10 hours of sunshine a day.
This makes it the perfect spot for escaping the chilly British winter.
Dubbed the ‘Miami of Europe’, the golden sands of Playa de Maspalomas stretch for six kilometres, backed by huge, rolling dunes.
Playa de Maspalomas has a range of watersports and there are seafront cafés, bars and restaurants within walking distance.
The beach was named the continent’s sunniest winter beach by Saga, which has compiled a list of the beaches that enjoy the most hours of sunshine during the winter months.
It has plenty of rave reviews on TripAdvisor with one user writing: ‘Probably one of the best and impressive places to go to in Gran Canaria, for free and as far as the eye can see.
‘We went there in the evening when the sun was slowly setting and the temperatures were nice.’

The beach has different sections, including a lively area near the Playa del Inglés resort, a more central area and a western end that includes nudist areas.
Activities on the beach include boat trips, whale watching, surfing and canyon tours. Of course, there is plenty of space for sunbathing too.
One of the resort’s biggest attractions is the 68-metre lighthouse at the edge of the beach.
Built in 1861, it was once a vital guide for steamboats navigating routes between Europe, Africa, and America.
It marks the beginning of the long Boulevard El Faro that’s crammed with cocktail bars, designer shops and restaurants.
For families, the resort is home to Aqualand, a huge waterpark with sea lions. For golf lovers, there’s an 18-hole course overlooking the Maspalomas sand dunes.
The best news is that flights are going very cheaply; you can pick up return flights from Luton Airport to Gran Canaria from just £27.
Once you’ve arrived at Gran Canaria airport, the resort is just a 20-minute drive.

It comes as from January to August 2025, an estimated 10million international visitors came to the Canary Islands.
In 2024, nearly 6.3million British tourists travelled to the Canaries.
Travel expert Marek Bron previously told the Daily Mail that getting away from the beaches and heading inland is a way to see a more unexpected side of Gran Canaria.
He said: ‘There are these wonderful mountain towns where the air is a little bit cooler and you get these beautiful mountain ranges where you can see the sun coming up.
‘Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the island’s capital, also has some incredible historic buildings and it’s a nice place to go out and eat.’
