A caring dog owner has been caught on camera carrying his nervous border collie up an escalator on his back – and even holding an umbrella over him in the rain.

Adorable footage shows the owner, who has not been named, giving Tyson the border collie a piggyback up the outdoor escalator in Seville in Spain on March 11.

Footage shows a happy Tyson slowly rising up the escalator while safely clinging on to his owner’s back.

The owner, who is a dog trainer and gives advice about dog safety, posted the heartwarming footage on his Instagram page with a caption warning that escalators and their mechanisms can be dangerous for dogs.

He adds that the beginning and end of an escalator are most dangerous and can act like a blade.

He said that he is a professional so is able to carry Tyson up an escalator safely and adds: ‘I hope you enjoy this lovely scene.’

The pair seem completely in sync during the journey up the escalator, with Tyson’s owner constantly checking to make sure he’s okay.

And his owner seems to have made the right call as vets advise owners to use a lift or stairs where possible to avoid taking dogs on escalators.

One vet from the South San Diego Veterinary Hospital said: ‘Most dogs are nervous around an escalator, and escalators and moving sidewalks can be dangerous for dogs.

‘Skip the escalator and opt for an elevator or the stairs instead when you are with your pet, or at the very least, carry your dog on to, off of, and during the escalator ride.’
