This Airbnb rental is definitely worth raising a glass to – because it’s an entire working pub.

The 17th century Fitzhead Inn, in the tiny Somerset village of Fitzhead, has five en-suite rooms, a Mediterranean-style courtyard, a professional-standard kitchen – and a fully operational bar, with draught beer available to buy for guests who’d like to pull their own pints.

Landlord David Clatworthy told MailOnline Travel: ‘I took it on five years ago and ran it as a pub for two-and-a-half years, but to be honest it was the bed and breakfast side that kept us going. I then took the view it was not viable as a pub, so came up with this quirky idea.’

The pub part of the inn comprises the snug area, with bar, and the main space with two sofas and an armchair arranged around a woodburning stove

For him, the main selling point is that the accommodation is not above the pub.

As the listing says: ‘The accommodation… is arranged in a separate annexe block, around the totally private courtyard. Perfect if anybody wants some peace and quiet while others party.

‘The accommodation consists of five award-winning, centrally heated rooms, four double bedrooms and one twin-bedded room, which are steeped in character and history but have a modern feel.

‘The rooms are tastefully decorated with quality furnishings and bed linen, including towels, is supplied. All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, a kettle, free wi-fi and a TV.’

The Fitzhead Inn is a private venue hire and not open to the general public

And what food supplies are available to cook in the pro kitchen? Top local farm produce, apparently.

The listing continues: ‘We have an arrangement with a local farm to supply superb quality meat, including sausages, burgers and free-range eggs. The locally reared beef steaks are to die for, so try a delicious sirloin or fillet.’

Food can be pre-ordered and David will pack it all away in the fridge in readiness for the stay.

The inn is steeped in history – and so is the village.

David explained that the pub was first licensed in the late 1600s and would for a long time have provided stabling for horses.

He continued: ‘The Inn today has seen many changes since those days. It has been extended at least twice and has been remodelled in line with changing requirements and tastes.

‘The accommodation building was initially the stables, which with the advent of the car was converted to a skittle alley. This remained in active use until converted again to letting rooms in the late 1990s.’

The village has its origins in the Saxon era and throughout the Medieval period the lands at Fitzhead formed an estate belonging to the Bishop of Bath and Wells until sold in the early 19th century.

Excursion options include trips to Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar Gorge and Blue Anchor beach – ‘one of the longest beaches for dogs to run and run’.

Costs are seasonal but prices in low season are around £150-£200 per night dependent of number of occupants, David said.
