The sun is blazing, yet in these mesmerising photographs – and on this hypnotic drone footage – Sydney’s iconic beaches are empty and pristine courtesy of the coronavirus lockdown.

These beautiful (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime shots were taken using a drone and helicopter by Australian aerial imagery specialist Jampal Williamson, co-founder of the acclaimed aerial photography firm Salty Wings.

His set includes shots of Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Coogee, Manly, Maroubra and Gordons Bay in their new unblemished guises. He also flew a drone just a few feet above Bondi – with barely a soul in sight.

He said: ‘I wanted to capture Sydney’s iconic beaches in their natural, untouched state. The result revealed a collection of eerily beautiful stills. A moment in time most of us will never forget.

‘It was incredible to see these deserted beaches in an isolation all of their own when they would otherwise be absolutely packed to the rafters.’

Swoop down to take a flight over Sydney’s now-deserted beaches, with one of Williamson’s shots of North Bondi juxtaposed with one he took just before the lockdown began…

In 2018 Bondi Beach attracted 2.9million visitors. Above, a shot by aerial photographer Jampal Williamson showing how the famed crescent-shaped spot looks today, devoid of people

Another stunning shot of Bondi during the lockdown, with Sydney’s skyline in the distance

A shot of Bronte Beach and the neighbouring park devoid of visitors. It is just over a kilometre’s walk south of Bondi and has an ocean-fed lap pool, which is tipped as one of Sydney’s most exceptional saltwater swim experiences

The sugar-white sands of Coogee Beach, free of bikinis and beach towels. Coogee is one of Australia’s oldest beachside suburbs

Gordons Bay is located south of Clovelly Beach and north of Coogee Beach. It is usually a popular dive spot as an offshore reef protects the cove

Manly Beach is one of Australia’s most famous surfing beaches. The first world surfing championship was held there in 1964

Maroubra Beach may not have the kudos of Bondi, but according to the National Surfing Reserves it’s one of Australia’s best surfing beaches. The 1km curved strip of white sand is nicknamed ‘The Bra’

Williamson took this shot of Tamarama Beach looking pristine with the message ‘#Stay Home’ marked in the white sand.  The sydney.com website notes that ‘Tamarama is often referred to as “Glamarama” because it’s where beautiful people hang out’

One of Williamson’s shots shows what North Bondi looked like just before the coronavirus lockdown started, with dozens of sunbathers and swimmers enjoying the picture-perfect spot

Williamson returned to the same area of North Bondi after the coronavirus lockdown – and the contrast was stark
