Benidorm holiday prices are being searched for the most

Revealed: Britons’ top 20 most-searched-for holiday prices for end-of-the-year getaways – and it’s Benidorm that’s No1, followed by the Maldives, Las Vegas and TenerifeA study looked at package holiday price searches this month – from April 1 to 28In a top 20 package holiday search ranking, long-haul destinations dominateResearchers say that it’s dreamy, sensory escapes Britons are looking for

There is no knowing when travel restrictions will be lifted and when it will be possible and safe to fly again – but it isn’t stopping Britons from dreaming of getting away to far-off destinations.

That is according to package holiday price searches this month – from April 1 to 28 – across a range of tour operators and travel agents via holiday price comparison site TravelSupermarket.

In a table of the top 20 most popular package holiday searches made in April, the Maldives is in the No2 slot, followed by Las Vegas, Tenerife, Orlando and New York in sixth place. But it’s Benidorm that’s the most popular search.

In a top 20 holiday price search ranking by TravelSupermarket, Benidorm, pictured, is No1

The Maldives comes second in the ranking, which showed that Britons are generally yearning for long-haul getaways for the end of the year

The rest of the top 10 is made up of Cancun (7th), the Dominican Republic (8th), Dubai (9th) and Majorca (10th).

In 11th place is Jamaica, followed by Mauritius (13th) and Antigua and Barbuda (14th).

The pattern is clear, says TravelSupermarket, British holidaymakers are browsing prices for more far-away beach resorts and cities and the cause is likely to be the pandemic.

It’s dreamy, sensory escapes they’re looking for, says the site.

It reveals that 12 of the top 20 most popular price searches until the end of the year are to long-haul locations compared with just three last April, a time of year when short-haul destinations would normally prevail.

Las Vegas is third in the ranking, which was produced by analysing data from April this year

Tenerife misses out on a podium finish – it’s in fourth place on the list

And 13 of the top 20 most popular searches for the rest of the year are to island locations, compared to seven this time last year.

October and November 2020 are the most popular future departure months to compare package holiday prices from the UK according to searches on the site.

Emma Coulthurst, travel commentator at TravelSupermarket, said: ‘We don’t know if people are just browsing, rather than thinking about booking. But it seems that even though UK travellers don’t yet know when they will be able to get away next, they don’t want to give up dreaming.

‘Some of people’s time during lockdown is being used to compare prices for exotic beach escapes or trips to some of the world’s most entertainment-filled cities and October and November have become the most popular departure months to search.

‘There is one clear anomaly though – the most-searched-for destination for holiday prices for the rest of 2020 is Benidorm.

‘With the pubs closed at home and talk of potential cheap beer prices on the Spanish coast in future, Brits appear nostalgic for a drink or three in the sun by the sea.’
