The best local restaurants in the UK have been named in the Good Food Guide 2023.
Among them are fine dining restaurants, cafes and cuisine from Italy, Germany, and France.
Taking the top spot for the whole country was Tallow, in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent
Speaking about picking up the top gong, owner Donna Taylor said: ‘What an unexpected and humbling acknowledgement for the whole team at Tallow, and such a privilege to be considered alongside restaurants we love and respect.
‘We’re incredibly proud to receive confirmation from our guests that Tallow has become what we had hoped, an accessible, relaxed dining experience that they wish to enjoy over and over again.’

The modern European fine diner was praised for its lack of formality and ‘down-to-earth, dress-how-you-want, genuinely friendly’ atmosphere.
Tallow’s menu is seasonal, but previous dishes have included Tallow, spiced goat with pickled cabbage, pan fried stone bass with rosti potato and vanilla poached apple with tonka bean custard mousse.
The guide referred to the eatery as the ‘perfect neighbourhood restaurant’ with ‘delicious monthly menus’ and ‘excellence of the service’.
WEST MIDLANDS: Tropea, Birmingham
