A burst water main has transformed a suburban street in Gloucestershire into a sensational icicle phenomenon after Britain was hit with sub-zero temperatures.

The icicle forest was created accidentally by passing cars which splashed water from a burst water main onto a hedge by the side of the road.

Helen Stratford, a mum from Staunton, Gloucestershire, saw the creation at the bottom of her road which caught her and other local’s attention.

Her daughter, Sabrina, 9, was fascinated by the icicles, and like many others wanted to go and see the icicles close up.

The sculpture was created by cars splashing water from a burst water main onto a hedge

Ms Stratford took Sabrina to marvel at the creation after school to take some inspiring winter photos.

She said: ‘I’ve driven past it every day, it’s a phenomenon of nature I suppose.

‘My daughter says they look like organ pipes at the cathedral, and wanted to go and see them.

‘We went when she broke up from school and it was so slippery but she wanted me to take a photo.

‘People have been bombing past it and not looking at it properly, but since I shared the photo they’ve stopped and realised it’s quite remarkable.’

Locals like Helen Stratford and her daughter Sabrina hope its here to stay as they enjoy their new local attraction

It’s not just Sabrina who was amazed by the new sculpture as one local wrote online: ‘Never seen anything like that before….brilliant pic!’

Helen hopes the icicle mound will grow as the weather forecast continues to predict sub-zero temperatures over the weekend.

She said: ‘Whenever people drive past they splash it and it adds more to it.

‘It really is amazing and truly unique.’
