Georgetown in Penang is on an island just off the West coast of Malaysia, known for its diverse mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures and amazing street food. I wandered around Love Lane and other parts of the city to see all of the street art, visited so many cute cafes and shops, went to the botanical gardens and saw Kek Lok Si, a big Chinese Buddhist temple. I especially enjoyed the variety of vegetarian food that I found here, including some Chinese and Indian vegetarian restaurants.
I ended up staying a lot longer than I planned to, and spent a lot of my time at the hostel and painting the walls. I stayed at THE best hostel – House of Journey (shoutout to Ray and Cheryl!) and made some really good friends with locals and fellow travellers while I was here. It was almost Christmas and we got together to put up the Christmas tree and get ourselves in the holiday spirit.
