HUNGARY l 7 TRAVEL TIPS l Budapest l Christmas Edition // Travel Tips // Episode 4

Planning a trip to Hungary? We have some amazing tips that we would love to share with you on our recent trip to Budapest. Here are 7 tips that we would have definitely found useful in planning our trip. Budapest is beautiful and we cant wait to go back and explore the rest of Hungary!

Please see the tips below, with useful links, that showcase the way we like to travel.

Tip 1: Transport
We caught the Ceske Drahe train line from Prague to Budapest. In Budapest we bought a 72 hour public transport pass which allowed us to use all the buses, trains and trams. The best way to see Budapest is on a night cruise on the Danube river. The lights are spectacular!

Tip 2: Time Of The Year
We went to Budapest over the Christmas time. The Christmas markets were amazing but the only issue with going over Christmas is that most places close midday on the 24th of December and then only open again on the 27th.

Tip 3: Accommodation
We stayed on the Pest side of Budapest at the Arcadia Hotel. It was in the perfect position and in walking distance to all the main attractions.

Tip 4: Food and Drinks
You have to visit the Great Market Hall for all your local foods and Hungarian Paprika. We enjoyed an amazing Christmas Eve dinner cruise and then treated ourselves to coffee and cake at the New York Cafe on Christmas Day. Our favorite foods were Langos and Hungarian Goulash. Our favorite drinks were decadent hot chocolate and mulled wine. Other places you have to try are Gelartorosa Ice Cream and the High Note SkyBar.

Tip 5: Sights
Our favorite place was definitely the St Stephens Basilica. We were there almost every day . Other beautiful places we visited and recommend are Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church, Buda Castle, Heroes Square and Gellert Hill. One of the most beautiful and jaw dropping sights we saw was the Hungarian Parliament Building. It looks majestic during the day and even more spectacular at night.

Tip 6: Activities
Our favorite activity was the Szechenyi Thermal Baths. We also watched the Nutcracker Ballet on Christmas Day, which was an amazing experience and is also something that has been happening for the past 80 to 90 years in Budapest. Other activities we enjoyed and recommend are, the Christmas Markets, the Budapest Eye, River Cruises, House of Terror museum and the Labyrinth.

Tip 7: General
We share a few general tips and apps to use on your travels.
