I’m a female solo traveller and these are the five countries where I’ve felt most safe – but not everyone agrees

While solo travelling is a fun experience full of adventure, it also comes with its dangers, especially as a woman.

Despite the industry shifting and more young women becoming confident enough to take the plunge alone, things can quickly go wrong and whether you feel secure or not can make or break your trip.

Passing on her knowledge, a travel influencer has shared the five countries where she felt most safe and that she would recommend to others.

The video posted by Chloe Jade has over 33,000 likes, with commenters sharing their own suggestions.

It comes after the TikToker previously highlighted four countries she felt unsafe in as a female traveller.

Benin

Benin is the first country that Chloe felt safe in as a woman, explaining that transport isn’t an issue as ‘it’s really easy to get around by motorbike, taxi or by hitchhiking.

She added ‘I felt incredibly safe in the markets and the food is really good.

‘Everyone is just super overly nice, warm energies and I felt comfortable my entire time.’

The pro-traveller included clips of her riding through the streets on a motorbike and meeting locals.

Saudi Arabia

Next on the list is Saudi Arabia, with Chloe saying she felt safe there, despite hearing rumours before she arrived.

She said ‘I heard a lot of things about this country before I went and I do not wanna discount or ignore all of the human rights violations that continue to happen with international workers, but as a woman I felt extremely safe here.

Adding ‘I should say as a foreign woman traveller. No one ever bothered me and I was not concerned about crime at all.’

However, some viewers were shocked at the recommendation, with one user writing ‘Saudi Arabia really? Interesting, people told me it was not. Good to know’.

Another agreed with Chloe, saying ‘I felt so safe in Saudi Arabia. Everyone was so kind and so respectful. The men truly do not bother you. Never have been treated with so much respect as a woman’.

The Philippines

Another favourite for the TikToker is The Phillipines, where she shared clips of herself riding on a motorbike, eating fruit and swimming at a waterfall.

She told viewers ‘I’ve gone on and on about how much I love the Philippines.

‘Filipinos are some of the most hospitable, friendly and fun if you’re going to generalize a country.

‘I feel safe walking around at night. I was never in an uncomfortable situation. The only thing I would say here is if you’re gonna be around a lot of foreigners, that’s your only risk because obviously foreigners come from other countries and they are unpredictable.’

Bangladesh

Fourth on the list of places she felt the most safe is Bangladesh.

She explained ‘Just the excitement that locals have to meet foreigners because they want to show you their country is super heartwarming.

‘The entire time that I was in Bangladesh, I just felt like people were trying to take care of me, made sure that I got where I needed to go and enjoyed myself in the process.’

However, there were a lot of comments disagreeing with her judgement.

Someone wrote ‘Haha love this for you! But as a Bangladeshi woman who grew up and lived in Bangladesh for 19 years, I have never once felt safe being a woman.’

Another added ‘I’m shocked by Bangladesh on the list, as a Bengali myself it’s quite unsafe but for foreigners they tend to be nice somehow lmao, please stay safe whilst visiting.’

Finally, the TikToker also recommended Rwanda as somewhere she felt secure.

She said ‘I feel like most people who have not been to too many parts of the African continent are always really surprised at Rwanda.

‘Coffee is really good in Rwanda, the roads are incredible in Rwanda, there are a lot of programmes in place for women in Rwanda.

‘Getting around in Kigali by motorbike is super easy and it felt incredibly safe as a woman.’

She concluding the video by warning ‘Now obviously I can’t speak to everybody’s experience in all of these countries but these were just a few places where I felt very very safe and at home.’

Adding in the caption ‘I do feel I have to point out that traveling is very subjective and these are just my experiences.

‘Everyone is treated differently based on how they look and where they are from. It is the sad reality.

‘Overall, these countries made me feel safe in terms of my possessions not being stolen, people being kind, nighttime safety, etc..

‘There’s a lot that goes into feeling comfortable and safe on a trip. But my number 1 tip is always use your intuition.’
