A psychic with keen eye for haunted houses has revealed the signs that suggest your home is being occupied by a ghost – and what you can do about them.
British psychic medium TJ Higgs describes herself as being able to connect individuals in this world with spirits in different realms.
The psychic, who communicates with spirits from homes, helps people connect with loved ones who have passed, and offers psychic healing, has been in the business for quite some years, with her own UK tour, a show on CBS, and multiple books to her name.
Known as natural-born psychic, TJ has had many experiences with ghosts on the other side.
In conversation with FEMAIL, the psychic medium explained that ghosts who cause strange experiences in the living world are often ‘family members and loved ones popping in to check up on you’.

Yet, many individuals across the globe worry that their home is genuinely haunted by supernatural entities.
Throughout her career, TJ Higgs has had countless individuals access her services with fears that ghosts are occupying their homes.
But TJ believes that there is no need to be afraid, as those entities may well be lost loved ones making their presence known in times of need.
She added: ‘Another common reason for a haunting, if you like, is the previous inhabitants of the home or the land it is built on.’
Regardless, many remain terrified of ghouls and ghosts.
To settle people’s minds, TJ Higgs has revealed a series of a tips to help homeowners understand whether ghosts are occupying their home.
From unusual movements in the home to chills and unusual sounds, TJ covers all bases.

Unexplained noises or voices
Just as horror films suggest, one of the most common signs of a haunted house is hearing unexplained sounds and voices.
Whether they are footsteps, whispering, banging noises, or even full-on conversations – TJ warns individuals to be attentive to the sounds.
‘Pay close attention to the timing and frequency of these sounds. If they occur consistently, they are trying to get your attention,’ TJ said.
‘This doesn’t mean in a negative way; your loved ones could just be being more persistent, so you know they are there and supporting you.’
The psychic gave a very simple way to stop the occurrences – to acknowledge them.
She explained: ‘Electronic voice phenomena (EVP) are sounds found on electronic recordings that are interpreted as spirit voices.
‘If you have heard them whispering, set up a recording device, your mobile phone will do, introduce yourself and ask if anyone would like to communicate.’
Unsettling sensations
If a ghost is settled in a home, occupants may experience eerie and unsettling sensations.
TJ explained: ‘If you frequently experience cold spots, sudden chills, or feelings of being watched or touched, it could be an indication of paranormal activity.
‘Trust your instincts and take note of any unusual feelings you have while inside your home.’
The psychic medium added that these sensations often occur when individuals move into a new home, as ‘residual energy’ from a spirit is common.
She concluded: ‘Once again a family member or loved one could be creating these sensations.
‘For example, if you have lost a beloved pet and you are feeling cold or chills in their favourite spot, especially around your feet, they are letting you know they are home.’
Objects moving on their own
Next, TJ warned of another classic sign that a house is haunted – objects mysteriously moving on their own.
‘This could manifest as doors opening or closing by themselves, furniture shifting, or items being misplaced,’ she explained.
TJ advised those experiencing unusual movements to consider setting up cameras or recording devices to track and capture any potential energy.
She added that spirits also hold the ability to manipulate electrical energy, meaning flickering lights can also be a tell-tale sign that a ghost is present.
She said: ‘If you frequently experience flickering lights, appliances turning on or off without reason, or batteries draining quickly, it might be a sign of spirit presence.
‘Ensure there are no logical explanations for these disturbances, such as faulty wiring or old appliances.
‘If you are experiencing this, especially after a recent passing, question the spirit by name and say “if that is you please do it again”.’
TJ explained a recent occurrence in her own life where she utilised her own advice.
‘Just recently I was at my friend Charlotte’s house, the doorbell rang, there was no one at the door,’ she said.
‘Charlotte said she thought it was her grandad Barry, as it had become a running joke every time it happened her family would say “oh there’s granddad”.
‘So I asked, ‘if that’s you Barry do it again’, immediately the doorbell rang, so we asked again and he did it again. It then didn’t happen again until a few weeks later on his birthday.’
Apparitions and shadows
The last sign TJ gave of a haunted house was sightings of ghostly apparitions or shadows in the home.
She explained that these sightings can range from full-bodied apparitions to the stereotypical transparent figures often envisioned in films.
She said: ‘If you or others in your household witness such phenomena, it may be a strong indication of a haunted house.
‘Note the circumstances surrounding these sightings, such as time of day, location, and any emotions or feelings experienced during the encounter.
‘Once again this could be previous residents of the home or land or more importantly, your loved ones.’
Different types of psychic abilities:
* Clairvoyance (clear sight) – Someone who is clairvoyant is not necessarily seeing the future or having dramatic psychic visions. They may just see a color, a number, or even a symbol
* Clairaudience (clear hearing) – Spiritual mediums are often clairaudient and can hear words, phrases, and names from those who have passed on. Most times, the medium will hear Spirit speaking inside his or her own head in her own voice
* Clairsentience (clear presence relating to the body) – This is the ability to receive intuitive messages via feelings, emotions, or physical sensations. Empathy (feeling the emotions of others) is also a form of clairsentience
* Mediumship – A medium uses his or her psychic or intuitive abilities to see the past, present and future events of a person by tuning into the spirit energy surrounding that person
