Influencer makes SIX figures by asking people what they do for a living on TikTok

An online influencer has revealed how he makes six figures simply by asking people what they do for a living and uploading the results to TikTok.

Edward Zharnitsky, 28, known as Ted Zhar online, was first propelled to internet stardom in August 2020 after sharing a video in which he approached a Ferrari driver to ask him about his profession and how he had earned enough money to purchase the sports car.

The clip has now been viewed more than 1.6 million times, and it launched what would first become a viral trend and eventually turn into Ted’s full-time career.

Soon after, he began stopping tons of people on the streets of New York City, where he lives, and asking them what they do for work.

While Ted admitted that his career started ‘as a joke,’ he has now racked up more than 611,000 followers on the streaming platform thanks to the TikToks – and has accumulated a whopping 30 million likes across his videos.

He’s also landed a slew of brand deals and sponsorships along the way, which ultimately resulted in him quitting his job in corporate finance so that he could focus on content creation instead.

‘The videos are really just [about] meeting interesting people in Manhattan that I normally wouldn’t meet if I wasn’t making them, and exploring New York and the people within it,’ he explained to the New York Post recently.

‘You never know who you’re going to meet and what adventure they’re going to take you on.’

One clip, titled ‘What Do Hot Girls Do For a Living?,’ has now received more than eight million views, and it features Ted specifically questioning good looking women about their professions.

Another is focused on ‘dads,’ while a third sees him asking only ‘bald men’ what their jobs are.

Some celebrities have even been involved – including Ed Sheeran, who filmed a video with Ted back in April, in which he brought him backstage to give him an inside look into his life as a singer.

Other TikToks show him asking well-known music mogul Scooter Braun what he does for a living, to which he replied, ‘Walk on the streets of New York,’ as well as acclaimed actor Adam Sandler, who seemed unamused and pushed Ted’s phone away from his face.

Most recently, Ted turned his viral videos into a business, releasing a line of clothing and merchandise that have his well-known catchphrase, ‘Das wassup,’ written on them

He hopes that his clips will encourage others to be more social. He said: ‘I hope my videos can make people want to interact, and go up to somebody on the street and talk to them’

‘I’m still a huge Adam Sandler fan, despite what happened in that video,’ he told the Post, while reflecting on the Big Daddy star’s reaction.

In the end, he said he hopes that his clips will encourage others to be more open and social with one another.

‘Now, with cell phones and social media and even with dating apps, people are just so scared to talk to each other face to face,’ he concluded.

‘I hope my videos can make people want to interact with people without their cell phones, and go up to somebody on the street and talk to them.’
