London, Edinburgh and York Dungeon attractions offer free entry to visitors handing in Harry’s Spare

Dungeon experiences in London, Edinburgh and York offer free entry on Coronation day to visitors handing over their copy of Prince Harry’s ‘Spare’ memoir

For the Coronation this weekend, the London Dungeon, Edinburgh Dungeon and York Dungeon are ‘getting into the spirit of the celebrations’ by offering free entry to guests who visit the attractions and hand over their copy of Prince Harry’s ‘Spare’ memoir.

As the country prepares to give King Charles III the ultimate royal treatment over the bank holiday weekend, the historical and immersive attractions have announced the ‘noble gesture’ to help ‘Spare the new monarch his blushes’ and, they say, ‘clear the nation’s streets of copies of the questionable literature’.

The highly anticipated autobiography caused quite the controversy when it was published at the beginning of the year, giving people a colourful account of Harry’s life to date, and a peek at life behind the Royal curtain.

This limited offer is available to the first 75 guests at each attraction who hand over their well-thumbed pages – ‘a nod to the King’s age as he takes to the throne’.

The limited-time offer will be running on Saturday, May 6, only and will be valid for guests who present their copy of Prince Harry’s ‘Spare’ memoir to the ticket office. All literature handed over will be released post-Coronation and distributed to charity shops.

A Dungeons spokesperson said: ‘The Royal Family and its colourful history has always been part of our attractions’ narratives, so it was important for us to honour His Majesty on the occasion of his Coronation. And what better way than by removing all controversial and unwanted literature, keeping the streets fit for our new King!’

The London Dungeon offers 16 ‘terrifying shows’ and ‘two thrilling rides’ that bring the city’s ‘deepest and darkest history to life’, delivering ‘ample scream-drenched stories and fear-inducing shocks for an experience that guests will never forget’.

The Edinburgh Dungeon is ‘an award-winning, 70-minute interactive and immersive, underground walk-through experience that brings 1000’s of years of Scottish history to life before your very eyes’.

There are live actors, special effects and a ‘thrilling drop ride’, with guests coming ‘face to face with notorious characters from Scotland’s murky past’, including murderous twosome Burke and Hare, local cannibal Sawney Bean and the legendry witch Agnes Finnie.

The York Dungeon, meanwhile, is a 75-minute interactive and immersive walk-through experience.

It says: ‘Get ready to scream and laugh through 2,000 years of York’s most haunted history. Guests can prepare to come face to face with the mighty Vikings and learn all about their Saxon enemies before meeting some of York’s most notorious characters, including the (in)famous Guy Fawkes and local witch Isabella Billington.’
