MACHU PICCHU TRAVEL TIPS + CLIMBING WAYNAPICCHU // PERU TRAVEL VLOG

You made it all the way to Machu Picchu in Peru and now all that’s left is to have the most epic visit to the lost Incan city! In this vlog we take you around this world wonder and share 12 travel tips that you need to know before your visit to help make sure it is everything you always dreamed of!

Something you will need to prepare for your trip to Machu Picchu (and all of Peru for that matter) is the right clothing, and we recommend getting some 100% alpaca wool items from Appalachian Gear Company for your adventures! Use our code NICOLEMICO for 10% off your order at We have been LIVING in our All-Paca Fleece Hoodies during our time in Peru; they are seriously incredible!

We have been looking forward to our visit to Machu Picchu for years. We were really curious about how it would measure up against all the hype about this sacred site, and we were relieved to discover it was even better than we thought. From Aguas Calientes we took a bus up to Machu Picchu before the sun was up, because visiting Machu Picchu bright and early is the BEST time of day to see the city (more on that in the video). Our guide Yiyo from Peruvian Paths and Adventures taught us so much about the Incan’s who lived here and the people who excavated the site in the 1900s to bring it back to life for the world to continue to enjoy.

We chose to climb Wayna Picchu Mountain as part of our visit to the sacred Incan city and oh man was that an adventure! A section of this hike is nicknamed the “stairs of death” and it is easy to see why! The views of Machu Picchu from the top were incredible, and we were really proud to have made it up this final mountain after hiking the Salkantay trail for the past 4 days!

After our visit to Machu Picchu we hopped on a train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo through the Sacred Valley. People rave about the Sacred Valley, and we quickly discovered why on this train ride. The 1.5 hour ride seemed to end way too quickly, and before we knew it we were saying goodbye to the Sacred Valley and wrapping up our tour of the Salkantay Trek and Machu Picchu.
