US-based content creator Katie had been visiting the Acatenango volcano in Guatemala when a man in her hiking group offered to take a snapshot.

But the image did not come out as planned – with the keen backpacker taking to TikTok to share the results.

Dozens of social media users were quick to flood the comments with their own thoughts on the image.

In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 2.7 million times, Katie records the volcano as pools of lava and plumes of smoke billow from its peak

In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 2.7 million times, Katie records the volcano as pools of lava and plumes of smoke billow from its peak.

The imposing view was soften by the orange hues of the skyline.

But the video then cuts to the results of the image taken by the unknown man which he decided to take in portrait mode.

As a result, although Katie was in very sharp focus, the stunning backdrop was left blurred and the immense power of the volcano was lost.

Katie uploaded the video with a backing track of Chronically Cautious, by Braden Bales, with the lyrics: ‘So if I’m honest, I think I’m beginning to question how much I want this.’

She then overlaid text that read: ‘POV: You go solo traveling and ask a man to take a photo of you and a literal erupting volcano.’

Katie wrote in the caption: ‘Men will be men.’

And social media users rushed to the comments to share their thoughts.

Dozens of social media users were quick to flood the comments with their own thoughts on the image

One wrote: ‘So my bf isn’t the only man obsessed with portrait mode?? Thank god.’

Another said: ‘You gotta ask a girl who’s with a bf to do it. Because between the two of them one will be decent and take it good.’

And a third added: ‘Always ask hot girls to take your pics.’

Fortunately for Katie, there is a way to undo ‘portrait mode’ even after the picture is taken.

Users hoping to turn off the effect should go to the photo app, open the snapshot, tap edit and then click the ‘portrait’ button at the top of the screen to remove it.
