A tiny hut on a shingle beach has raised eyebrows after going on sale for more than the price of a family car.
The six-foot by seven-foot wooden shack is on the market for £40,000 – and one local described the price as ‘mad’.
Beach Hut 53 sits on Bexhill Beach, East Sussex, with uninterrupted views across the English Channel.
Despite its modest size, the hut boasts one of the most sought-after spots on the seafront.
It sits directly on the shingle and sand along De La Warr Parade and East Parade.

The hut is just a short stroll from public toilets, parking spaces and baby-changing facilities.
A children’s play area, beachside cafés and traditional fish and chip shops are also within easy walking distance.
The sale also includes classic seaside essentials such as deckchairs, loungers, a windbreak, a sun parasol and basic cutlery.
However, there is one catch.
Like all beach huts covered by local regulations, it can only be used during the day.
Overnight stays and using it as a permanent home are strictly prohibited.
Owners must also pay an annual site licence fee to the local council, which typically ranges between £650 and £730.
Even so, the £40,000 asking price has sparked surprise given the hut is little bigger than a garden shed.

However, the beach hut is only permitted for use during the daytime

One person said: ‘On the train going past the beach huts in Bexhill.
‘I can totally relate to the idea of a beach hut, but £40,000 for a shed on the shingle is a bit mad.’
It’s not the first beach hut to go on sale for mammoth prices.
Earlier this year a beach hut without power or services went on sale for a staggering £200,000.
The timber and corrugated iron hut was one of just 17 beach huts on the dog-friendly and boat-launching side of the Porth Mawr beach in Abersoch.
And last month, a tiny beach hut overlooking one of North Wales’ most scenic bays went on the market for £50,000 after being owned by the same family for more than 60 years.
