No need to sleep on the couch! Tiny flat in ‘heart of Notting Hill’ with bunk bed in living room is available to rent for £1,842-a-month

A tiny studio flat in the ‘heart of Notting Hill’ which is so small the bed is in the living room is available to rent for £1,842 a month.

The apartment on Tavistock Road in London may appear grand on the outside – but inside could be considered a tight squeeze for some.

The studio flat is not much more than a Victorian room with high ceilings and a bunk bed above a bright blue, old-fashioned sofa.

As well as shelling out £1,842 each month for a room, you will also be expected to pay a £700 deposit.

The rest of the furnishings are painted white and are also old-fashioned. There is also a tiny kitchen partitioned off which is described as ‘modern’. Studio flats in this area are generally priced around £1,200 per month, according to Foxtons, so this property is priced considerably higher.

According to the listing on Rightmove, it was reduced in price on September 11.

The advert reads: ‘Boasting a fabulous location moments from the trendy bars and shops on Portobello Road, this fantastic studio flat boasts spacious accommodation, high ceilings and a modern kitchen.

‘Tavistock Road is located moments from the fashionable restaurants, shops and bars of Portobello Road, Westbourne Grove and Notting Hill Gate. Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park (Hammersmith & City Line) are the nearest underground stations.’

The property comes with large bay windows that will let in lots of light and has lots of amenities

Despite the homeliness, it is impossible to ignore the odd staircase to the mezzanine-style bed.

According to the rental index by Goodlord, London tenants will need a salary of at least £50,000 a year to rent without sharing.

Average prices rose by 7.98 per cent in London to £2,145 a month in August compared to July and by 13.95 per cent in the South East to £1,497 a month.

A £50,000 annual salary produces take-home pay after tax of around £3,169 a month.

Tenants need to be earning an annual salary of at least 30 times the monthly rent they intend to pay if they are a single occupant, estate agency Antony Roberts said.
