Heavy snowfall at one of Scotland’s most popular winter sports destinations has resulted in the best conditions of the season.
Cairngorm Mountain, near Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands, has received 9.4 inches of snow since Saturday, with the heaviest blast on Tuesday.
The snow depth on the upper mountain now measures 15.7 inches.

In an update posted today, the ski resort’s website notes that there are ‘great snow conditions on-piste, with groomed packed powder’.
It adds that visitors should wrap up well with a moderate breeze resulting in a ‘high windchill of around minus 15 degrees Celsius’.
On both Saturday and Monday, there was 2.7 inches of snow, followed by 3.5 inches on Tuesday and a 0.3-inch sprinkling on Wednesday.
The wintry weather forecast in the mountainous area is set to continue.

Snow-forecast.com predicts that there will be a ‘light covering of new snow’ on its way, ‘mostly falling on Saturday night’.
Commenting on the conditions, Susan Smith, interim chief executive of Cairngorm Mountain Scotland Limited, said: ‘The fantastic heavy snowfall has seen wintersports enthusiasts flock to the mountain to make the most of the snow conditions – with both challenging and gentler slopes open to suit all abilities.
‘The entire Cairngorm Mountain team has been rallying together to open as many tows and lifts as possible as well as making sure the pistes are in top condition.
‘With snowfall set to continue, we’re hoping to offer many more enjoyable days on the mountain.’
Cairngorm Mountain is located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, around 2.5 hours by car from Glasgow and Edinburgh and approximately one hour’s drive from Inverness.
