An incredible new megayacht could become the widest in the world.

The £418million (€500million/$551million) Sovrano is described as a hybrid between a private yacht and a cruise ship.

The vessel, by Italian design studio Lazzarini, features platforms on either side of the main deck that results in a beam – the width at its widest point – of 108ft (33m). It has a length of 555ft (169m).

A flexible design allows for the platforms to feature helipads, swimming pools or extra lounges. These areas can also be winched to water level for alfresco waterside sunbathing or dining.

Elsewhere, the five-deck Sovrano – Italian for sovereign – features a stunning sunken oasis where palm trees surround a swimming pool and gym access area.

The interior sees room for 50 guests in 20 private suites and quarters for up to 60 crew, there to make sure every whim can be catered for.

Italian design studio Lazzarini, which is behind the design, says the concept would suit either a wealthy individual or a group of owners that want to travel privately around the world

Lazzarini estimates it would take four years to construct the Sovrano

A large garage allows the onboarding of two 49ft (15m) tenders and up to six supercars, made seamless by a lifting platform and two cranes.

Lazzarini says the vessel owner can decide on electric motors or a hybrid propulsion system, which will power it along at 18 knots (20.7mph) or 31 knots (35.6mph), respectively.

The designers say that the concept would suit either a wealthy individual or a group of owners that want to travel privately around the world.

Although a buyer has not been found as yet, Lazzarini spokesperson Cinzia Ruggeri says: ‘We estimate a €500million budget and four years for the construction.’

Lazzarini is known for its imaginative designs – this swish new concept comes just weeks after the firm unveiled plans for a spaceship-style superyacht with a panoramic hot tub and a Ferrari-inspired vessel with a garage for the owner’s own prancing horse.
