Plane passenger slams Delta for losing her DOG at the world’s busiest airport – as she reveals beloved rescue pup Maia is STILL missing one week later

An airline passenger has launched a desperate search via social media to find her dog, which she says went missing in the hands of Delta Air Lines at the world’s busiest airport.

Paula Camila, from the Dominican Republic, traveled to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia last Friday – which saw a whopping 93.7 million passengers in 2022 – but she was denied entry to the US by border officials.

In an interview with Atlanta News First, she revealed that she was told that she would need to go to a detention center and be separated from her dog Maia for the night.

However, when she returned to the airport the next day to return home, her rescue pup – who she rescued from the streets at one-month-old – was nowhere to be seen and she had no choice but to fly solo.

Paula Camila has launched a desperate search via social media to find her dog Maia, which she says went missing in the hands of Delta Air Lines at the world’s busiest airport

After landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia last Friday – which saw a whopping 93.7 million passengers in 2022 – Paula was denied entry to the US

Paula was told that she would need to go to a detention center and be separated from Maia for the night. That was the last time she saw the pup

Paula said at first, she refused to get on the plane without Maia and she was ‘crying [and] having panic attacks.’

But the US border patrol agents said she had to board the flight as by law, she couldn’t be in the airport for more than 24 hours.

Now, almost a week on, Maia has still not been located and Paula has put out calls on Instagram and TikTok to highlight the mishap along with the hashtag #whereismaia.

In one caption accompanying photos of Maia, Paula wrote: ‘SHE IS NOT JUST MY DOG. SHE IS MY BEST FRIEND ON EARTH.

‘Delta took her away from me, even though I kindly asked them. She was my emotional support and she was in DISTRESS and she broke her kennel and ran into the airport highway.

‘She has been lost for 72 hours now. She is extremely sensible to noise and she must be scared to death.’

Paula said when she got home she ‘started making calls [and]… claims’ but no one from Delta knew where Maia was.

Finally she got a call from a representative for the airline based in the Dominican Republic who told her Maia had broken out of her kennel while in Atlanta and had been missing since Saturday.

A spokesperson for Delta told DailyMail.com that they are working to find Maia and remain in touch with Paula

Paula said when she got home she ‘started making calls [and]… claims’ but no one from Delta knew where Maia was.

‘She is not just my dog. She is my best friend on Earth,’ Paula said of Maia

‘After that, I haven’t got any type of response from them,’ the concerned pet owner said.

She concluded: ‘She’s been missing for more than 72 hours in the biggest airport in the United States without food, without water. She must be scared.’

The director of communications and public affairs at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Andrew Gobeil, told Atlanta News First that so far, airport staff ‘have not encountered the dog, but will continue to remain vigilant should she appear.’

He added: ‘If she is seen, ATL’s staff will attempt to capture her and return her to the airline and her owner.’

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Delta told DailyMail.com that they are also working to find Maia and remain in touch with Paula.

They said: ‘Delta teams have been working to locate and reunite this pet with the customer and we remain in touch with the customer to provide updates.

‘Delta people feel deeply concerned for the customer and the dog and we’re committed to ongoing search efforts, working closely with the City of Atlanta Department of Aviation and other stakeholders.’
