A plus-size influencer has laid bare the brutal realities of traveling while overweight – revealing that she can’t lower her food tray down and that she must ‘shimmy’ sideways down the aisle.

Alicia Gilby, a size 4X model, regularly documents her day-to-day life and style choices on her Instagram account, where she has amassed more than 105,000 followers.

But in a recent clip, the Canadian content creator veered away from fashion-focused content in order to lay bare the painful reality of flying on a plane as an overweight person in a very frank TikTok post.

In a viral video, which has so far amassed over 359,000, Alicia said that she had to use a seatbelt extender and sit next to the ‘smallest’ person in her family while traveling.

She captioned the clip: ‘I’m plus-size and on a plane. Did I miss any?’

While aboard the plane, the influencer said: ‘I’m plus-size and on a plane, of course I can’t put the tray table down.’

Then, the clip cut to another angle of Alicia sitting in an airplane seat next to a young boy.

She noted that because she is overweight she has to sit next to the ‘smallest’ person in her family.

The content creator added that it’s severely uncomfortable for her to travel because the armrest ‘digs’ into her hips.

‘I’m plus-size and on a plane, of course I have to shimmy down the aisle sideways,’ she said as she moved through the aircraft.

Lastly, Alicia said because of her size, she always needs a seat belt extender.

Despite the clip reaching viral success, Alicia turned off the comments section.

Jaelynn Chaney, a travel creator based in Vancouver, previously demanded the FAA to ‘protect’ plus-sized travelers and make it more ‘comfortable and accessible for everyone’

This isn’t the first time a plus-size influencer has discussed their qualms with flying accommodations.

Jae’lynn Chaney, 25, from Vancouver, Canada, has also opened up about the difficulties she faces on airlines as a ‘fat’ person.

She candidly documented her struggles to fit in plane seats and bathrooms, and revealed she is often forced to purchase two seats in order to travel ‘comfortably’.

She previously demanded the Federal Aviation Authority and airlines give overweight flyers as many free seats as they require to fly comfortably.

She also revealed she wants airlines to be forced to refund overweight passengers for any extra seats they’re forced to purchase when booking to accommodate their size.

‘As plus-size travelers, my partner and I have unfortunately experienced discrimination and discomfort while flying,’ she wrote in her petition.

She added: ‘All plus-size passengers should be provided with an extra free seat, or even two or three seats depending on their size, to accommodate their needs and ensure their comfort during the flight.’

Turning her attention to reimbursements, she added: ‘Airlines should offer a refund for plus-size passengers who purchase additional seats independently. This should be a straightforward process that can be accessed online or through customer service.’
